Survivor Series Preview: The Art of War Games

Survivor Series used to be about teams of “five strive to survive.” In recent years, it’s been about War Games.

Now that Vince McMahon is gone, Triple H isn’t shy about using a very “WCW” concept as the centerpiece of a WWE pay-per-view.

This year’s event will take place on Saturday at 6 p.m. Eastern time in Vancouver, Canada.

War Games has two wrestling rings side by side, surrounded by a steel cage. One member of each team starts, and the team that won the “advantage” match brings in a new member after five minutes.

The match can only end after all of the teammates have entered.

War Games goes back to the mid-80s, with The Road Warriors, Dusty Rhodes & Nikita Koloff battling The Four Horsemen (Ric Flair, Tully Blanchard, Arn Anderson & Lex Luger).

Back then, the War Games cage had a roof on it. Also, a coin toss determined the advantage, and the match could only end on a submission.

THIS YEAR’S WAR GAMES

The Men’s War Games match will feature the Original Bloodline taking on the New Bloodline.

Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa will captain the teams as they compete to be acknowledged as the “Tribal Chief” of the large and legendary Samoan wrestling family.

Reigns will team with Jimmy Uso, Jey Uso, Sami Zayn, and CM Punk against Sikoa, Jacob Fatu, Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa, and Bronson Reed.

Rhea Ripley and Liv Morgan will captain their War Games teams, as they continue to feud over Morgan’s World women’s championship.

Morgan’s team includes Nia Jax, Candice LaRae, Raquel Rodriguez, and Tiffany Stratton. Ripley needs an injury replacement for Jade Cargill to complete her team, which also includes Bianca Belair, Naomi, and Iyo Sky.

TITLE MATCHES

Damien Priest will try to regain the World championship that he lost to Gunther at SummerSlam.

US champion LA Knight will defend against Shinsuke Nakamura. Bron Breakker will put the Intercontinental championship on the line in a triple threat match against Sheamus and Ludwig Kaiser.
