Who gets the game ball for the Steelers first half of the 2024 season?
The Pittsburgh Steelers have managed to secure a 6-2 record for the first half of the 2024 season. Hitting their bye week before entering their tough, 9-game stretch, it’s time to reflect on what the team, both individually and collectively, have done to this point of the season.
But who gets the mid-season game ball?
Each win for the Steelers this season, I have set forth nominations to receive the SCN game ball. It does not necessarily have to be the best player on the field, but who really stepped up their game this particular week. After the case was made, you all decided which player took home the honor.
Previous Game Ball winners from the 2024 season include:
Week 1: Chris Boswell (92%)
Week 2: Cory Trice (28%)
Week 3: Justin Fields (69%)
Week 6: T.J. Watt (49%)
Week 7: Beanie Bishop (57%)
Week 8: Calvin Austin (currently 79%)
I will remind everyone of the rules that it is individual players who will be in the running. Although it could be applicable, it will not be either position groups or coaches who are eligible for this designation. But for those of you wanting to look at coaches, we will be doing a mid-season game ball for them tomorrow!
So here are the nominations in no particular order:
T.J. Watt
When you have the best defensive player on the planet, sometimes he is taken for granted. T.J. Watt is well on his way to another successful season. With 33 combined tackles, 6.5 sacks, and 14 quarterback hits, Watt currently leads the NFL enforced fumbles with four.
Najee Harris
Halfway through the season, Najee Harris is having his best years in yards per attempt (4.4), and yards per game (74.0). With 592 rushing yards on 136 attempts along with two touchdowns, Harris is coming off three-straight games with more than 100 yards rushing in each contest for the first time is NFL career.
Chris Boswell
For the first half of the season, Chris Boswell has emerged as the best kicker in the NFL. Hitting 23 of 24 field goals and 16 of 16 extra points, Boswell has not missed a kick from inside of 62 yards! Boswell has hit all six attempts in the 50-yard range on the season and scored 85 points.
Cam Heyward
While he is not always flashy or putting up monster statistics, Cam Heyward has been the most consistent player on the Steelers defense. With 33 tackles, 3.0 sacks, and 12 quarterback hits, Heyward is still getting it done each week at the age of 35.
George Pickens
Although he has had his ups and downs this season, George Pickens is over halfway to another 1,000-yard receiving season. With 548 receiving yards on 35 receptions which places him 10th in the league, Pickens is starting to emerge a top receiving threat in the NFL.
So what do you think? Who deserves the mid-season game ball for the Steelers? Make sure you vote in the poll as this is how the winner will be determined. As a bonus, you can even add another choice if you think someone other than these five should get the honor (and no cheating on the rules or it will be removed, meaning it is a single player not already listed). And of course, feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments below.
