Who gets the game ball for the Steelers 26-18 win over the Giants in Week 8?

The Pittsburgh Steelers have their second three-game winning streak of the season and pushed their record to 6-2 heading into the bye week with a 26-18 win over the New York Giants. While the outcome was in doubt until the very end, the Steelers never trailed and had takeaways the last two drive the defense was on the field.

But who gets the game ball?

Each win for the Steelers this season, I will set forth nominations to receive the SCN game ball. It does not necessarily have to be the best player on the field, but who really stepped up their game this particular week. After the case has been made, you all decide which player takes home the honor.

Previous Game Ball winners from the 2024 season include:

Week 1: Chris Boswell (92%)
Week 2: Cory Trice (28%)
Week 3: Justin Fields (69%)
Week 6: T.J. Watt (49%)
Week 7: Beanie Bishop (57%)

I will remind everyone of the rules that it is individual players who will be in the running. Although it could be applicable, it will not be either position groups or coaches who are eligible for this designation as they are more in line for Jeff Hartman’s Winners and Losers article.

So here are the nominations in no particular order:

T.J. Watt

When the game is on the line, T.J. Watt shows up in a big way. Getting the strip sack and fumble recovery in response to the Steelers turning the ball over was a huge play. In all, Watt had 2.0 sacks, a forced fumble and fumble recovery, as well as seven tackles.

Calvin Austin

When a player scores two touchdowns, especially in two different phases of the game, it’s a game-ball-worthy performance. Not only did Calvin Austin score the first touchdown of the game with a 73-yard punt return, he also added a 29-yard touchdown reception. In all, Austin had three receptions for 54 yards on four targets.

Alex Highsmith

T.J. Watt was not the only player to get multiple sacks in this game as Alex Highsmith also had two sacks of his own. Adding four tackles, one of the most impressive stats is that Highsmith had six of the Steelers 12 quarterback hits.

Najee Harris

For the first time in his NFL career, Najee Harris has gone over 100 rushing yards in three straight games. Rushing for 114 yards on 19 carries, Harris averaged 6.0 yards per rushing attempt on Monday night.

George Pickens

Although he momentarily had two touchdowns in the game, Pickens was held off of the scoreboard but still had 74 receiving yards on four receptions from five targets. The first touchdown that was erased had nothing to do with Pickens, and the second was where he was unable to get his other foot down despite getting one foot down two times before being pushed out of bounds and still maintaining possession.

So what do you think? Who deserves the game ball for the Steelers this week? Make sure you vote in the poll as this is how the winner will be determined. As a bonus, you can even add another choice if you think someone other than these five should get the honor (and no cheating on the rules or it will be removed). And of course, feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments below.
