Who gets the game ball for the Steelers 13-6 win over the Broncos in Week 2?
The Pittsburgh Steelers started off the 2024 season with their second-straight road win with a 13-6 victory in Denver over the Broncos. Looking for their first 2-0 start since 2020, there were a number of Steelers players who stepped up and helped lead this team to victory.
But who gets the game ball?
Each win for the Steelers this season, I will set forth nominations to receive the SCN game ball. It does not necessarily have to be the best player on the field, but who really stepped up their game this particular week. After the case has been made, you all decide which player takes home the honor.
Previous Game Ball winners from the 2024 season include:
Week 1: Chris Boswell (92%)
I will remind everyone of the rules that it is individual players who will be in the running. Although it could be applicable, it will not be either position groups or coaches who are eligible for this designation as they are more in line for Jeff Hartman’s Winners and Losers article.
So here are the nominations in no particular order:
Darnell Washington
Getting his first career NFL touchdown, Darnell Washington only had one catch for 5 yards on one target. But it was a significant one for him as well as the Steelers as it was the only touchdown scored by either team in the game.
Cory Trice
Another player getting a career first was cornerback Cory Trice pulling in his first interception. It was a key play as Trice was filling in for Donte Jackson at the time and pulled in the pick in the end zone to take away potential points from the Broncos.
Jaylen Warren
After being very limited last week with his touches as he came back from a hamstring injury, Jaylen Warren was a key contributor in a number of aspects. Averaging 4.7 yards rushing, Warren had 42 rushing yards on nine carries and also added two receptions for 19 yards. In another key moment for the Steelers, Warren was able to scoop up the fumble from the botched snap late in the game to keep the Steelers clean in the turnover department.
Corliss Waitman
Signed by the Steelers this week after the season ending injury to Cameron Johnston, Corliss Waitman was called onto punt eight times on Sunday. Although he did have three touchbacks, Waitman had a 53.0 gross punting average and a 43.0 net punting average.
DeShon Elliott
Although he did not have one of the Steelers interceptions this week, DeShon Elliott led the defense in tackles with nine. Additionally, Elliott had a fantastic tackle for loss on a third and one where he came through and forced the punt by throwing Javante Williams for a 4 yard loss.
So what do you think? Who deserves the game ball for the Steelers this week? Make sure you vote in the poll as this is how the winner will be determined. As a bonus, you can even add another choice if you think someone other than these five should get the honor (and no cheating on the rules or it will be removed). And of course, feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments below.
