Steel Curtain Network: A Pittsburgh Steelers podcast

The Steelers are excited about training camp for a variety of reasons

We are now well within the one month mark before the Pittsburgh Steelers reporting to training camp at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA. And while the July 24th reporting date nears, it is important to know the Steelers are extremely excited for the upcoming camp, and for a lot of reasons.

After fielding a call from our source inside the organization, it was made very clear the Steeles were extremely excited about the Steelers brand new quarterback room. Especially Russell Wilson.

Wilson hasn’t gotten as much publicity this offseason as Justin Fields, and there’s a reason for that. Fields is still ridiculously young, and Wilson is nearing the end of his career. It’s natural for fans and media to wonder if Fields, not Wilson, is the future of the organization. Fields could be the future, but the Steelers know Wilson is the now.

The Steelers have been unbelievably happy with Wilson since he chose to come to Pittsburgh after being released by the Denver Broncos. He has been coachable, a leader, and essentially another coach for the young offensive players. In other words, he’s breaking all the narratives which followed him from Denver to Pittsburgh. The Steelers weren’t in charge of Wilson getting the treatment and amenities he received with the Broncos, but have been very pleased with Wilson in every possible way.

The Wilson news also ties in with Justin Fields. The two have created a great combination, and Fields is taking well to Wilson’s tutelage and guidance. Fields has had an up-and-down offseason, but the Steelers know it will take time to get him out of some previously coached bad habits. They know it will take time to coach Fields out of some things he’s been doing, and coached to do, since his time with the Ohio State Buckeyes. Throughout it all, Fields has been a great teammate, coachable, and willing to learn despite the peaks and valleys throughout the offseason.

Ultimately, the Steelers are looking forward to a drama-free training camp. There are some player contract situations which could be addressed at some point, but the Steelers, and Mike Tomlin, are not about to have a drama filled camp. Instead, the focus will be on the Steelers getting the very best out of their roster and having the best 2024 season possible. Not drama.

There are a lot of reasons for the Steelers, and their global fan base, to be excited about the 2024 Steelers. They have a quarterback room which houses a Super Bowl champion and a player brimming with potential. They have a young roster which seems to be ready to take the next step. Plenty of reasons to be excited.
