The latest rumor mill surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers have done plenty of work so far this offseason, but there is plenty of work yet to be done before the 2024 NFL Draft. We here at Steel Curtain Network (SCN) are fortunate to have some sources inside the organization, and around the league, who have been willing to give us some information pertaining to the Steelers throughout the offseason.
When we got a call the other day, there was a lot of information which was sent forth which we felt you, the reader/listener, would appreciate. So, time to empty to notebook and fill you in on what we’re hearing surrounding the Steelers in terms of trade rumors, free agency and the NFL Draft.
Let’s get it started…
Trade Rumors
- There are rumors of DeMarvin Leal potentially being dealt via trade. While the Steelers would certainly listen to potential offers for Leal, the deal would have to be right for them to pull the trigger. While they’ll listen, they aren’t actively shopping Leal at this time.
Free Agency
- A name we’ve been telling you to keep an eye on since before the start of the league year has been center Brian Allen. After being released from the Los Angeles Chargers, he would make sense for the Steelers.
- The organization likes his toughness, experience, and leadership.
- While they like Allen, there are other suitors, and the deal has to make sense for the Steelers on a lot of fronts, mainly financially.
NFL Draft (NFL Source)
- Our source inside the Steelers also has connections around the league, and this is what one NFL insider said about the Steelers. They are the best drafting team in the NFL. Why? Because they “do what they’re supposed to do”
- This NFL source continued to say the Steelers will address the offensive line in Round 1.
- With Michael Penix Jr. visiting the Steelers on a pre-draft visit, consider this nothing more than a “smokescreen” for other teams who might be interested in Penix.
NFL Draft (Inside the Steelers)
- The Steelers are doing their diligence with the centers entering the 2024 NFL Draft, and they have their favorites in the group.
- To rank the potential centers in this class, the Steelers rankings would be as follows:
- Graham Barton (Duke) / Zach Frazier (WVU) / Jackson Powers-Johnson (Oregon)
- The Steelers love the versatility of Barton, and realize he could provide a lot of position flexibility for the offensive line.
- The organization also likes Trey Fautanu (Washington), but they have some questions which will likely be answered in a pre-draft visit prior to the 2024 NFL Draft.
You can hear a lot more about these rumors and inside information on my Wednesday “Let’s Ride” podcast. Check it out in the player below, and be sure to stay tuned to SCN for the latest news and notes surrounding the Steelers as they press on throughout the 2024 offseason.
