The best receivers from 2023 the Steelers are set to face in 2024

Earlier this week we took a look at the top rushers from 2023 who are scheduled to face the Steelers in 2024 (check that out HERE). Continuing down this path, today it’s time to check out the wide receivers who are on the Steelers schedule this season who finished toward the top of the yardage standings last year. As I said before, there could be holdouts, injuries, or trades which could make these players not able to see the field when they face the Black & Gold. But for now, these things can’t be known for sure.

This list consists of players who had at least 1,000 receiving yards in 2023, their overall rank yardage last season, and the week in which they will face the Steelers. Players who are teammates and both appear on the list will be grouped together as the Steelers will be tasked with defending both players.

CeeDee Lamb (2nd)
Dallas Cowboys
Week 5

Coming up only 50 yards short of Tyreek Hill for the top receiver spot in 2023, CeeDee Lamb had 1,749 receiving yards on 135 receptions in 17 games in 2023. The only player the Steelers will face this season who averaged more than 100 yards per game last year, this will be the second time Lamb faces the Steelers. Back in 2020, he had four receptions on seven targets for 71 receiving yards and a touchdown in a Steelers victory. Playing in Pittsburgh in prime time, Lamb will potentially be the top offensive weapon the Steelers will need to stop.

A.J. Brown (5th) & DeVonta Smith (20th)
Philadelphia Eagles
Week 15

The only duo on the same team from the list who the Steelers face this year, the combo of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith is not one that would fly under the radar. With Brown having 1,456 receiving yards on 106 receptions with Smith adding 1,066 yards on 81 receptions, the Steelers have some time to prepare for this dual threat as they don’t face them until Week 15. It also does not help that in his two games against the Steelers, one with Philadelphia and one with Tennessee, A.J. Brown had over 150 receiving yards in each game and four total touchdowns. With the Eagles, Brown had 156 yards on six receptions and three touchdowns in 2022. In 2020 Brown had 153 receiving yards on six receptions and one touchdown in a losing effort. As for Smith, he only had 23 receiving yards on five receptions in their 2022 route of the Steelers, but Brown did so much damage the fact that Smith was held with a low total is irrelevant.

Amari Cooper (10th)
Cleveland Browns
Week 12, Week 14

The top receiver on this list from an AFC North opponent, the Steelers have plenty of familiarity with Amari Cooper. Racking up 1,250 receiving yards on 72 receptions in 15 games, Cooper has faced the Steelers six times in his NFL career. The last three matchups were all as a member of the Cleveland Browns where Cooper did go for 101 yards on seven receptions and a touchdown in the first meeting against Pittsburgh in an AFC North matchup in 2022. Cooper first faced the Steelers as a member of the Oakland Raiders in 2015 where he had 88 receiving yards on seven receptions and a touchdown. When Cooper faced the Steelers as a member of the Cowboys in 2020, he had 67 yards on five receptions. The three most recent matchups since his 100 yard game against the Steelers, Cooper has gone for 51 yards, 90 yards, and 34 yards with no touchdowns.

Ja’Marr Chase (12th)
Cincinnati Bengals
Week 13, Week 18

Appearing in 16 games last season, the only game Ja’Marr Chase missed was one against the Steelers. With 1,216 yards on 100 receptions, not having Joe Burrow for a large portion of the season likely had an effect on Chase as he averaged about 10 yards less per game than his previous two seasons. Facing the Steelers four times in six opportunities since coming into the NFL, Chase had a huge game in Week 1 of the 2022 season with 129 receiving yards on 10 receptions and a touchdown in a game Pittsburgh won and overtime. Last season, in the first matchup with the two teams, Chase had 81 yards on four receptions.

Michael Pittman Jr. (14th)
Cleveland Browns
Week 4

With a career high of 1,152 receiving yards on 109 receptions, Michael Pittman is a receiver the Steelers are quite familiar with. Although most notably the recipient of the hit which caused Damontae Kazee to miss the remainder of the 2023 regular season due to suspension, Pittman had 78 receiving yards on four receptions before leaving the game last season. In his other two matchups against the Steelers, Pittman had 61 receiving yards on seven receptions and a touchdown in 2022 and 38 yards on three receptions in 2020.

Davante Adams (15th)
Las Vegas Raiders
Week 6

The only wide receiver who finished in the top 10 in yards from 2022 who the Steelers faced last season, Davante Adams showed his skills with 172 yards on 13 receptions with two touchdowns in Week 3 of 2023 despite the Steelers being victorious. On the other hand, Adams only had 15 receiving yards on two catches in Pittsburgh on Christmas Eve the previous year. With 1,144 yards on 103 receptions in all 17 games last season, Adams did have a significant drop in yardage from the previous year despite having his best game of the season against Pittsburgh.

Garrett Wilson (22nd)
New York Jets
Week 7

After winning the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award in 2022 with over 1100 yards receiving, Garrett Wilson followed it up in 2023 with another thousand yard season with 1,042 receiving yards on 95 receptions. Wilson did face the Steelers early in his rookie season when the Jets defeated the Steelers in Week 4 in 2022, but Wilson only had two receptions for 41 yards.

Terry McLaurin (28th)
Washington Commanders
Week 10

Just squeezing into the 1000 yard receivers club for 2023, Terry McLarin had 1,002 receiving yards on 79 receptions. Hitting the thousand yard mark in each of the last four seasons, McLaurin has faced the Steelers before when in 2022 Washington ended the Steelers 11-game win streak. But during that contest, McLaurin only had two catches for 14 yards.
