The best offenses from 2023 the Steelers are set to face in 2024
After taking a look at some of the best offensive and defensive players at their positions in 2023 who the Steelers are scheduled to face in 2024, it’s time to finish up with the best offensive and defensive ranks as a team. Before moving on, here are all the groups who have been covered so far:
Rushers
Receivers
Quarterbacks
Tight Ends
Pass Rushers
Pass Defenders
Tacklers
After looking at the defense yesterday, today it’s time to check out teams who ranked at the top in the NFL in offense for 2023 who are on the Steelers schedule for 2024. The two categories for offensive rank will be yardage gained and points scored. Teams who finished in the top 10 in either category will be listed as well as their place in the other category even if it isn’t in the top 10.
Of course there have been a number of departures and arrivals for each offense the Steelers will face this season. Some of the key player movements will be noted in each description. Of the teams who appear in the top 10 in one of the two categories, the Steelers are only set to face six of them this season, but only because there was a tie for 10th.
Dallas Cowboys (5th yardage, 1st points)
Week 5
Topping both categories when it comes to teams the Steelers face this season, the Cowboys offense led them to 12 wins last year. But with the team not doing a lot in free agency, there are some questions. Losing center Tyler Biadasz, running back Tony Pollard, tackles Tyron Smith and La’el Collins, and wide receiver Michael Gallup who just recently retired after joining the Raiders, it’s not like the Cowboys can’t overcome these things. They did sign back running back Ezekiel Elliott as their only offensive edition in free agency. The largest question looming right now has to do with wide receiver CeeDee Lamb who did not report to training camp.
Baltimore Ravens (6th yardage, 4th points)
Week 11, Week 16
A big part of Baltimore’s offensive success last season was Lamar Jackson staying healthy throughout the year as he only missed one game due to rest which happened to be against the Pittsburgh Steelers. But the ravens lost two offensive linemen in guards John Simpson and Kevin Zeitler and a couple running backs in the form of Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins. But the Ravens big acquisition was running back Derek Henry who looks to show he can still be a top-notch NFL rusher after the age of 30.
Philadelphia Eagles (8th yardage, 7th points)
Week 15
The Philadelphia Eagles showed consistency on offense early in the season before struggling as a team down the stretch. Perhaps their biggest loss was the retirement of center Jason Kelce, but the Eagles had a plan in place for some time. The most notable change came with the running back position as the Eagles signed Saquon Barkley to a lucrative contract while DeAndre Swift moved on to the Chicago Bears.
Kansas City Chiefs (9th yardage, 15th points)
Week 17
Even though the Chiefs barely made the top 10 in yardage and were middle of the league when it came to points scored, downplaying what their offense can do would be foolish after back-to-back Super Bowls. Yes, it’s actually the Chiefs defense that came through a huge way last year, but Patrick Mahomes is the standard at quarterback in the NFL at this time. The Chiefs did add wide receiver Marquis Brown to boost their passing game this season and their most significant player lost was guard Nick Allegretti.
Indianapolis Colts (15th yardage, t-10th points)
Week 4
Squeezing in by tying for the 10th most points scored last season, Indianapolis Colts are a team where it’s difficult to know exactly what to expect on offense with the return of quarterback Anthony Richardson. The Colts lost Gardner Minshew to free agency after leading them to a winning record last season, and running back Zach Moss is now with the Bengals. The only significant offensive free agent signing for the Colts was to replace their back up quarterback as they brought in Joe Flacco after he had what was deemed to be a successful end to the 2023 season despite throwing an interception in every game he appeared.
Cleveland Browns (16th yardage, t-10th points)
Week 2, Week 14
Another team sneaking in to the list by tying for 10th in points and coming in one spot behind the Colts in yardage, the Cleveland Browns success will have a lot to do with their quarterback play this season. Is Deshaun Watson ever going to live up to his contract? Is James Winston the better option? The Browns added a number of inexpensive free agent signings this year outside of Winston such as running back Nyheim Hines and D’Onta Foreman. The most notable players who departed the Browns other than quarterback Joe Flacco were tight end Harrison Bryant and center Nick Harris.
