Steelers WR Roman Wilson ankle injury expecting to have him out weeks

If you rewind the tape to the first padded practice of 2023 training camp, it was an injury to a rookie which ended his season. That practice was the beginning of the end for cornerback Cory Trice Jr. a year ago, and the Steelers watched another rookie leave the first padded practice Tuesday.

The rookie was 3rd Round pick Roman Wilson, but the good news the ankle injury he sustained was not as significant as the one to Trice last season. After Tuesday’s practice Mike Tomlin said Wilson was being evaluated after being carted off the practice field shortly after the “Seven Shots” drill.

Tuesday evening reports are swirling regarding the severity of Wilson’s injury, and how long he might be out of practice. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler cites sources who call the ankle injury to the rookie receiver “week-to-week” but that he’ll be “okay”.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Gerry Dulac suggests Wilson will be out “at least two weeks”.

Either way, the good news is Wilson’s season isn’t over. The bad news is Wilson will miss some valuable time learning in training camp and even in the preseason. Will it hinder his ability to participate in the 2024 regular season? Will it take him more time to get acclimated? That has yet to be seen, but be sure to stay tuned to SCN for the latest news and notes surrounding the Steelers as they prepare for the rest of training camp and the preseason.
