Steelers vs. Texans, Preseason Week 1: Final Score and Highlights

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Houston Texans squared off in Week 1 of the NFL Preseason, but this wasn’t the first preseason game for the visiting Texans. Houston played the Chicago Bears in the Hall of Fame game a week ago, so they were putting their starters, like C.J. Stroud and company, on the field to start the game. Meanwhile, the Steelers were resting many of their starters as they ease their way into the preseason.

In this article we will highlight the most important aspect of the game, the highlights. By quarter we will have big plays, including scoring plays, right here as well as score updates as the game progresses.

Let the 2024 season begin!

1st Quarter

C.J. Stroud to Tank Dell for the Texans TD with 6:17 left in the quarter.

Score at the end of the 1st Quarter: 7-0 Texans

2nd Quarter

Dare Ogunbowale with the TD, this just a handful of plays after a horrible botched punt by Quez Watkins. TD came with 3:52 left in the half.

Houston was able to drive into field goal range in a 2-minute drill to add a field goal as time expired in the half.

Score at Halftime: 17-0 Texans

3rd Quarter

Kyle Allen finds Calvin Austin III to move the offense into scoring range.

Shortly after that pass Allen found Connor Heyward for the Steelers first score.

The Texans drove into field goal range at the end of the third quarter, and the kick was successful.

Score at the end of the 3rd Quarter: 20-6 Houston

4th Quarter

Kyle Allen had a big pass play to Scotty Miller to move the ball into the red-zone. From there, it was undrafted rookie running back Daijun Edwards who did the rest.

The Steelers went for two, but failed, making the score 20-12 with 12:47 left in the game.

With 3:54 left in the 4th quarter the Texans had a relatively short look for field goal, but the kick sailed wide left, giving the Steelers a chance to drive the length of the field and get a two-point conversion to tie the game.

That didn’t happen, and the 20-12 score would hold as the final in the contest.

The loss moves the Steelers record in the preseason to 0-1 as they prepare for another home game next Saturday vs. the Buffalo Bills at Acrisure Stadium.

Final Score: Texans 20, Steelers 12
