Steelers vs. Cowboys Picks: See who the SCN staff is predicting to win

IT’S GAME DAY!!

That means while we all wait for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys to kickoff at 8:20pm EST in Week 5 on Sunday, it’s time to take a look at who the SCN staff likes in this game. The current line for the game is PIT (-2.5) with a Total of 44.

But these picks are vs. the spread, or based on an over/under. These are straight up picks. So, let’s get to the prognostications…

Jeff Hartman

The Steelers are coming off a bad Week 4 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, and their opponent this week has several similar glaring holes on their roster, especially on defense. Can the Steelers exploit those deficiencies and claim their 4th win of the season? I believe in the Steelers defense rebounding, and I also believe in the Steelers offense continuing to improve on a weekly basis with Justin Fields at the helm. When all is said and done, the Steelers do enough to win the game and advance their record to 4-1.

Prediction: Steelers 26, Cowboys 20

Last week I went against the numbers that told me the Steelers were due to drop their Week 4 contest in Indianapolis. I blamed it on the cancellation of Steelers Stat Geek as to why I didn’t trust the numbers. But the Stat Geek lives! I should have known that you’ll never fully get rid of him. This week I’m going with the numbers which have the Steelers with an 80% winning percentage in Week 5 under Mike Tomlin as they are a team that bounces back. More than anything, it’s the defense which really needs to get the job done. I think they do better this week and the offense puts more points on the board.

Prediction: Steelers 29, Cowboys 22

Jeremy Betz

I expect the Steelers running game to find its groove against a bad Cowboys front that’s missing its 2 best players. Even though Jaylen Warren and Cordarrelle Patterson are out, I think the combo of Najee Harris and Justin Fields should be leaned on heavily to move the football on the ground and allow PIT to take advantage of Dallas over the top. I don’t think the Steelers will lose again before the bye week, and it starts with a roll over the Cowboys on Sunday night.

Prediction: Steelers 27, Cowboys 17

Anthony Defeo

This feels like a game where Dak Prescott puts on a show in front of a national audience. The good news is Justin Fields will also have a showcase night without Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence getting all up in his business. The bad news is I think Dallas has the better offensive weaponry and will be very productive against Pittsburgh’s suddenly struggling defense.

Prediction: Cowboys 28, Steelers 25

Big Bro Scho

Will the Steelers live up to their usual performance and come up with a win in week 5 after a loss in week 4? The game is at home that’s a plus. It is a national TV game that too is a plus. The defense in particular makes a rebound this week. The offense does enough without having to face Lawrence and Parsons. The Steelers finish out Sunday night with a victory.

Prediction: Steelers 20, Cowboys 14

K.T. Smith

Last week I wrote that I felt confident the Steelers would win in Indianapolis, and because I’m not used to feeling confident the Steelers will win, I was also nervous about the outcome. Make sense of that. This week I have no idea what will happen, with a talented but banged-up Dallas squad coming to Acrisure for a marquee prime-time game. How will Justin Fields fare under the bright lights? How will the Steelers respond to their first loss of the season? Are the Cowboys contenders or pretenders? Honestly, I have no idea. And that uncertainty brings me comfort. Go Steelers.

Prediction: Steelers 23, Cowboys 20

Corey Eckenroth

The Cowboys are coming off of a 20-15 win against the NY Giants possibly missing their best two EDGE LB’s. The Steelers are banged up all over the place after their 27-24 loss to the Colts, but could be getting reinforcements. So, with all that said, throw it out the window. This is Steelers vs Cowboys, and it’s always entertaining, it’s always a good game, with the winner never having more than a 5 point victory the last couple times these two have played.

The Cowboys lead the all-time regular season series 17-16, but remember, the Steelers still own the more important all-time POSTSEASON series record, which, if you’re using your noodle you’re already ahead of me, could only be done by these two teams meeting in the Super Bowl. The Steelers are 2-1, with the lone loss coming by way of He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named. The Steelers look like the better team at this point in the season, and I like them to even the All-Time Series here in nail-biter fashion in prime time.

Prediction: Steelers 33, Cowboys 30 (OT)

Jason Murphy

Before the Ravens, when you thought of THE rivalry team for the Steelers, it was the Cowboys. The NFL stands today on a foundation that was laid down in large part by these two teams and their epic battles in the Seventies. It’s also the reason I have the privilege to write for SCN, because living in Cowboys country and having an extended family of Cowboys fans is what prompted me to ride or die Black and Gold in the first place. I wrote an article in July about how my grandparent’s house is no longer being in the family after their passing, and how that house shaped my childhood and football fandom. This will be the first meeting between the two teams since the house was sold. So, I won’t be in the present for the game Sunday night. I will be six years old again, watching the 1979 Super Bowl with loud aunts and uncles booing as I celebrate an epic Pittsburgh win.

Prediction: Steelers 35, Cowboys 31

Bryan Anthony Davis

My inclination is to pick the Steelers here. I think Justin Fields shines in Prime Time and the defense rebounds from a rough outing in Indy. In fact, a pissed-off T.J. Watt goes off the rails and strips Dak Prescott for a big turnover late. Chris Boswell blasts one from 49, and the Steelers prevail.

Prediction: Steelers 27, Cowboys 26
