Steelers vs. Commanders Picks: See who the SCN staff is predicting to win

IT’S GAME DAY!!

That means while we all wait for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Washington Commanders to kickoff at 1:00pm EST in Week 10 on Sunday, it’s time to take a look at who the SCN staff likes in this game. The current line for the game is PIT (+3) with a Total of 45.

But these picks are vs. the spread, or based on an over/under. These are straight up picks. So, let’s get to the prognostications…

Jeff Hartman

I still can’t believe the Steelers are getting 3 points in this game, but that’s exactly what the spread is for the Steelers vs. Commanders game in Week 10. When you look at this game from a global perspective you can see how it is strength on strength for many variables in this game. However, the Steelers defense, and running game, should be capable of taking the play to Washington throughout the game. The Steelers are healthy coming off the bye, while Washington is dealing with several key injuries. Barring the Steelers turning the ball over, I see this being a hard fought road win for the Steelers.

Prediction: Steelers 26, Commanders 23

Dave Schofield

It has been just shy of two weeks since the Steelers have played, and after getting two samples of Russell Wilson quarterbacking the Steelers offense I feel they are ready to put points on the board. Additionally, I feel the Steelers defense can continue to do what they do and hold teams in check. For that reason, and the fact that Washington has only played two teams that are currently above .500, I’m looking for the Steelers to take care of business and win by more than one score. But if they don’t, it’s not that the sky is falling as the Commanders are a quality opponent.

Prediction: Steelers 31, Washington 20

It’s strength on strength this week with the stingy Steelers D traveling to face off against a high-flying Commanders offense. The key to this one could very well be the turnover battle. Washington has only given the ball away 3 times in 9 games, while the Steelers rank 4th in the NFL in takeaways. Whichever strength wins out in that regard could be the difference, but don’t sleep on an improving Commanders defense making things tough for Russ and company despite their recent surge. It’s gonna be a fun one, and I think the Steelers get to 7-2 behind their run game and the defense’s ability to keep rookie QB Jayden Daniels contained.

Prediction: Steelers 30, Commanders 23

Anthony Defeo

I am really looking forward to this game. I have become a huge fan of Jayden Daniels, and I think he is the next great quarterback in the NFL. This feels like Marino 1983/1984. The Commanders offense is about as good as it gets, complete with a full arsenal of talented weapons. The Steelers are going to have to score a lot of points this game. Fortunately, they seem more capable of that with Russell Wilson leading the way. Washington’s defense is meh overall but 29th against the run. Wilson is going to have to have a good game, but Najee Harris will also have to dominate.

Prediction: Steelers 34, Commanders 31 (OT)

Big Bro Scho

The Steelers are coming off their bye week. The biggest thing is that they are now starting to get healthy again. The Steelers will still be missing Nick Herbig, but other than that they have gotten fairly healthy. The same cannot be said for the commanders, who will be missing several players for this game due to injury. Throw in the fact that the Steelers have had two weeks to prepare for this game and everything for me leans towards the Steelers being able to pull out a victory.

Prediction: Steelers 26, Commanders 18

K.T. Smith

This will be Pittsburgh’s toughest opponent to date and sets up as a huge challenge. Thankfully the Steelers are coming off a bye, where Mike Tomlin is 13-4 in his career. And his record against rookie QBs is 158-2. Or not. But it’s really good. Jayden Daniels isn’t any rookie QB but I like having an extra week to prepare for him. I think the Steelers win an exciting game.

Prediction: Steelers 27, Commanders 24

Corey Eckenroth

Out of nowhere, this has become a hot matchup to watch with playoff positioning implications. I mean, at the beginning of the season, I think it would be fair to say that no one had this game circled on their calendar as must watch. My how times have changed in such a short span!

The Steelers get to 200 yards rushing as a team to suck the air out of the ball and limit the time on the field for Daniels. The rookie QB shows he’s got the goods and a bright future, right before reminding us that he’s still a rookie QB, as the Steelers defense gets a turnover to shut the game down at the end.

Prediction: Steelers 33, Commanders 29

Jason Murphy

The fun aspect of this season is not being able to predict how the Steelers will play now. Every prognostication is a wild guess. That also applies to Washington and their QB. This is not your normal rookie, so the record against first time signal callers can be thrown out. There will be times when the defense will not be able to win the game and need the offense to step up. My wild guess is that this is one of those games, and we might see a thrilling shoot-out. Getting some key people back could be the difference to make that one play needed to preserve a win.

Prediction: Steelers 31, Commanders 27

Sadie Hubler

This week is easily the toughest challenge the Steelers have faced so far this season. Despite Jayden Daniels being a rookie, the Commanders offense has put points on the board in masses thus far and will be a challenge for the Steelers defense. Although the Steelers should be able to make things more difficult for Daniels and company, this one might be the first where Pittsburgh needs to rely on their offense to secure the win in a shoot-out.

I have Russell Wilson and Najee Harris having big days and leading Pittsburgh to victory in a nail-biter. This game solidifies that the Steelers offense is for real.

Prediction: Steelers 27, Commanders 24
