Steelers vs. Browns Picks: See who the SCN staff is predicting to win

IT’S GAME DAY!!

That means while we all wait for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns to kickoff at 1:00pm EST in Week 111 on Sunday, it’s time to take a look at who the SCN staff likes in this game. The current line for the game is PIT (+1) with a Total of 33.

But these picks are vs. the spread, or based on an over/under. These are straight up picks. So, let’s get to the prognostications.

Jeff Hartman

The Pittsburgh Steelers seem to have an easier road ahead with Deshaun Watson and Joe Burrow both having their seasons end prematurely due to injury. But do you think that will mean things will be easy? I don’t. Nothing comes easy to this Steelers team, and I don’t expect this game to be any different. Steelers barely win this defensive grudge match.

Prediction: Steelers 17, Browns 13

Dave Schofield

I was all prepared to take the Browns in this game because I thought it would take the Steelers at least one game to figure out how they’re going to handle the inside linebacker situation. Additionally, not having Minkah Fitzpatrick to help cover for the deficiency just added another element. But the quarterback situation in Cleveland is a bigger factor. If the Browns have to rely heavily on the run game, the Steelers have the right linebackers to hopefully get the job done in that department. As long as the game is close I feel the Steelers win. And with the Browns making their choice of QB, I don’t see them being able to blow out the Steelers.

The Browns will be without Deshaun Watson and with rookie DTR. Having said that, is there a huge difference between the rookie DTR and what we’ve seen from Kenny Pickett this season? That was a rhetorical question. I still think the Browns have the better roster, and I think they’re actually going to use their heads, their elite defense, and try to play the Steelers game this Sunday. The Browns may be more equipped to win playing like the Steelers than the Steelers are.

Prediction: Browns 14, Steelers 10

Reminder: I have no idea what to expect from this Steelers squad each week. So I have been picking games for the past few weeks based on the Steelers current trend to lose one, then win two. The trend has held true all season, so why change now. Guess what should happen next, based solely on the trend? I am sticking with my Pump Your Brakes podcast prediction. Hope I’m wrong.

Prediction: Browns 20, Steelers 13

Yes, Dorian Thompson-Robinson will get the nod for the Browns, but I get bad omens for this game for Pittsburgh for several reasons. For one, the team’s last two wins came in horribly unsustainable fashion, in which the Titans and Packers drove all the way down the field before throwing game-sealing interceptions in the red zone. The Browns are significantly better than both those squads, even without Deshaun Watson, so the margin of error cannot be that thin. In large part, that’s because of Cleveland’s outstanding defense, which is likely to give Kenny Pickett & Co. major problems. No defensive touchdowns and a poorer run game leads to a close loss.

Prediction: Browns 16, Steelers 14

I expect to see a lot of defense played in this game. The question is which offense is going to be able to put up enough points, or get enough help scoring points from their defense to come out on top. Based on everything of late I would love to say that that team will be the Steelers. I am even going to do something I haven’t done in several weeks and I’m going to pick the Steelers to win this game. What does that probably mean? The Steelers will probably end up getting blown out because I pick them to win.

Prediction:  Steelers 21, Browns 18

K.T. Smith

This should be a tight, low-scoring affair where the team who makes less mistakes and takes advantage of its opportunities most effectively will win. Pittsburgh is tied for the league lead in turnover ratio at +10, and they’ve been great in one-score games, winning nine in a row. That spells another workmanlike win for the good guys.

Prediction: Steelers 19, Browns 16
