The Pittsburgh Steelers are back, and that means it’s time to get you, the loyal fan base, up to speed on what is happening at practice on Saturday, August 5.

Can’t make it to St. Vincent College in Latrobe, PA? Our goal is to help keep you up-to-date with everything that’s going on…as it happens. At times the article can get bogged down due to the high volume of tweets, so I will continue to do my best to be more selective.

The Steelers are in pads after the night practice. I am told they’re doing backs on backers. They usually do it at Friday Night Lights, but Tomlin’s absence probably changed the script.

Defense wins 7 shots 4-3, and Kenny Pickett went 1/4, lone TD to Diontae on the second rep.

Jaylen Warren has two great reps in backs-on-backers vs. Elandon Roberts, including blocking him to the ground on the second. RBs celebrate big time after, and Warren and Darius Hagans stand over Roberts for a minute. Tomlin likes the block, but scolds them for the extra jawing.

Backs on backers ends with two Darnell Washington and Nick Herbig reps. Herbig slips under Washington the first time, and Tomlin calls for them to run it back. Washington dominates Herbig the second, solidly holding him off.

Kendrick Green just took a rep with the first team, lining up as fullback, in the first 11-on-11 period. Last night he played three snaps at fullback with the third team and had a catch.

Calvin Austin III had a shaky start to camp, but he’s been much more consistent as of late. Had a deep catch yesterday, just had a nice one over the middle behind Elijah Riley.

Trubisky, too, has looked good. After hitting Austin, he had a nice deep ball to White on the sideline

Allen Robinson just cooked Joey Porter Jr. on a back shoulder. Very slight veteran push off. George Pickens came over to the ref to ask why he was flagged the other day and Robinson wasn’t there. Talked about keeping his elbows in. Cool to see 14 seeking knowledge that way.

ILB Mark Robinson and Connor Heyward both went up for a Mitch Trubisky pass over the middle. Robinson wrestles it away and refs rule it an interception. Nice play by Robinson, who got some first team reps earlier today.

Minkah Fitzpatrick stopped to talk with us for a couple minutes after his first practice back. Talked about how much he appreciated Mike Tomlin for allowing him to be with his family. Said he didn’t practice before his week-long absence because he was anticipating having to go.
