Steelers suffer critical injuries at the worst possible time
The Pittsburgh Steelers were losers in Week 8, falling to the Jacksonville Jaguars at home, but the biggest story following the game wasn’t poor offense…but injuries.
As the team now prepares for the Tennessee Titans on a short week, the Steelers were ravaged by injuries during the Sunday contest at Acrisure Stadium. After the game, Mike Tomlin addressed the media and talked about the myriad of injuries the team is dealing with heading into Week 9.
The biggest question was the status of quarterback Kenny Pickett. Pickett left the game with what was labeled a rib injury. He was back on the sideline, was not able to return to play. Tomlin didn’t say anything other than the fact Pickett was unable to return with a rib injury. Even when asked about Pickett’s status, Tomlin refused to provide any specific detail.
Minkah Fitzpatrick left with a hamstring injury, and, like Pickett, Tomlin wasn’t able to provide any further information on the injury. Tomlin simply stated with the short week it will be difficult to see how these injured players might be available on Thursday night.
As for players like wide receiver Diontae Johnson and offensive tackle Dan Moore Jr., both players were able to return to the game. Tomlin didn’t provide much of an update, stating they were able to return to play. Even though they were able to return to the game, there are times when an injury can continue to hamper a player in the days following the injury.
The Steelers now have to try and prepare for a Thursday Night Football game with some big-name players questionable, at best, leading into the prime time affair.
Be sure to stay tuned to SCN for the latest news and notes surrounding the Steelers as they prepare for the Tennessee Titans in Week 9.
