Steelers start the 21-day return from IR window for three players

The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 18, the 2024 regular season finale, and prior to that game the team has decided to start the 21-day return from Injured Reserve (IR) for three players. Those three players are:

  • ILB Cole Holcomb
  • DL Logan Lee
  • WR Roman Wilson

This from the Steelers official Twitter/X account:

While Lee and Wilson are both rookies looking to make their first mark on the Steelers organization, the biggest story here might be the return to practice of Cole Holcomb. Holcomb suffered a gruesome season-ending injury in 2023, and many wondered if he’d be able to ever play football again. It has taken over a year, but Holcomb returning to practice is significant in his road to return.

For those who might want a refresher of Lee and Wilson, check out the detailed information below from Steelers.com:

Lee was placed on the Reserve/Injured List before the start of the regular season.

Lee, one of the team’s sixth-round draft picks, played college football at Iowa. He appeared in 43 games, starting 41 of them, and had 158 career tackles, including 58 solo stops, 18.5 tackles for a loss, nine sacks and seven passes defensed.

Wilson was placed on the Reserve/Injured List on Oct. 28. Wilson, one of the team’s third-round picks in 2024, was selected with the 84th overall pick.

Wilson played college football at Michigan where he appeared in 46 career games, finishing his career with 107 receptions for 1,707 yards and 20 touchdowns. In 2023 he appeared in 15 games, finishing with career highs with 48 receptions for 789 yards and 12 touchdowns.

These players returning with one week left in the regular season doesn’t mean they will ever play in the postseason, but could just be getting them some repetitions at practice as the regular season ends. Needless to say, we’ll see how things play out, and be sure to stay tuned to SCN for the latest news and notes surrounding the Steelers as they prepare for the Bengals and the Wild Card Round of the AFC Playoffs.
