Steelers sign wide receiver Van Jefferson to one-year deal

In the wake of the Kenny Pickett trade with rocked the Pittsburgh Steelers fan base, the team is now trying to fill out the rest of the roster. One area of need which has moved up the team needs board is wide receiver, especially after the team dealt Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers.

While this isn’t the only receiver who will be added, the team is reportedly bringing in Van Jefferson on a one-year contract, per Ari Meirov:

Jefferson was a second round pick of the Los Angeles Rams in the 2020 draft. He spent three seasons with the Rams before he was traded to the Atlanta Falcons for late round draft picks. It was there he built a rapport with new Steelers offensive coordinator, then Falcons head coach, Arthur Smith.

Last season Jefferson played in all 17 games, but only registered 20 catches for 209 yards with no touchdowns in the often time anemic Falcons offense. His best receiving season was in 2021 when he registered 802 yards and 6 touchdowns in the Rams passing system. Now, Jefferson will be asked to be a target for Russell Wilson in the new-look offense heading into 2024.

As state before, the Steelers still have work to do to fill out their wide receiver corps, and according to Mark Kaboly of The Athletic, Tyler Boyd remains an option for the Steelers.
