Steelers reportedly target their first offensive coordinator candidate

The Pittsburgh Steelers are one of several NFL teams looking for a new offensive coordinator for the 2024 season. With head coach Mike Tomlin stating last week that the Steelers are looking outside of the organization to fill the position, there had yet to be any reports of potential candidates the Steelers have met with. But according to Albert Breer, the Steelers are one of the teams who have put in a request to interview Rams quarterback coach and pas game coordinator Zac Robinson.

Robinson was a 2010 seventh-round draft pick of the New England Patriots. Playing quarterback at Oklahoma State, Robinson failed to make the Patriots his rookie season but landed on the practice squad of the Seattle Seahawks. Although he was called into action as a reserve quarterback, Robinson did not see the field. After the Seahawks waived Robinson following a single game, he was claimed by the Detroit Lions for the rest of the season but did not appear in any games. Failing to make the Lions team in 2011, Robinson spent the next two seasons on the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad. Spending the 2013 season on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) List with an elbow injury, Robinson was waived the following offseason with a failed physical and ultimately never played in an NFL regular-season game.

Robinson began his coaching career during the 2019 offseason when he was hired by the Los Angeles Rams as their assistant quarterback coach. After a season of a switching to the assistant wide receivers coach, Robinson went back to being the assistant quarterbacks coach in 2021, a season where the Rams were Super Bowl Champions. Since 2022, Robinson has been the Rams quarterbacks coach and pass game coordinator.

Robinson appears to be a popular offensive coordinator candidate as he already has interviews set up with several teams as mentioned by Breer. Exactly if and when an interview would take place with the Steelers has yet to be determined.
