Steelers release wide receiver Scotty Miller

The Pittsburgh Steelers have made an opening on their 53-man roster ahead of their Wild Card matchup against the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday night. Thursday afternoon the team announced they have released wide receiver Scotty Miller.

Miller joined the Steelers this offseason on a one-year deal and appeared in 13 of the team’s 17 games. When all receivers were healthy, Miller was often out of the lineup as a healthy scratch. But with different players missing time throughout the season, whether it be a wide receiver or tight end, Miller was often the one to fill the void.

Targeted nine times, Miller had five receptions for 69 yards on 210 offensive snaps with the Steelers. Miller also added 10 special teams snaps.

Playing his first four NFL seasons in Tampa as a sixth-round pick of the 2019 NFL draft, Miller played one season in 2023 with the Atlanta Falcons before following his former head coach, Arthur Smith, to the Steelers for 2024.

While the Steelers did not announce another roster move, the release of Miller is likely to make room for a return of offensive tackle Calvin Anderson to the 53-man roster. Designated to return this past week, Anderson is listed as questionable for the game. The reason he would likely be the choice to join the roster is because guard Mason McCormick is also questionable with a broken hand. Should McCormick be inactive on Saturday night, the Steelers need to have an eighth offensive lineman active in order to have 48 players available for the game rather than 46.

As for the other players who could return off of IR or PUP, Roman Wilson, Logan Lee, and Cole Holcomb have all been ruled out for Saturday night.
