Steelers release Keanu Neal after a failed physical

With the new league year slated to begin next week, the Pittsburgh Steelers are doing their diligence with their roster and salary cap space.

After several players have already been released, some for salary cap purposes, the Steelers have announced Thursday they are releasing safety Keanu Neal.

Unlike Mitch Trubisky and Mason Cole before him, Neal was released with the designation of a failed physical.

This from the Steelers official Twitter/X account:

The move doesn’t just clear up the question of Neal’s status on the roster, but also clears up salary cap space prior the start of the tampering period next Monday, and the new league year starting Wednesday.

Neal’s release creates roughly $2.25 million of salary cap space before displacement, increasing the team’s overall amount of available money to near $11 million dollars.
