Steelers promote ILB to active roster prior to Week 13

The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing to host the Arizona Cardinals Sunday in Week 13 of the regular season, and like they’ve done so many times this season, they made a roster move before the game.

The roster moves have always been practice squad elevations, and in this case the team is looking to bolster the inside linebacker position. It was announced Saturday the team elevated linebacker Kyron Johnson to the Active/Inactive roster from the practice squad.

This from the Steelers official Twitter/X account:

While Johnson was elevated for Sunday’s game against the Cardinals, he will revert back to the practice squad after the game. Johnson was signed to the practice squad on Oct. 10.

Some might fine it noteworthy Johnson was the linebacker chosen to be promoted over veteran Myles Jack, who spent the 2022 season on the Steelers active roster and knows the defense.

Nonetheless, for those want some background on Johnson, this is from the Steelers official website:

Johnson was drafted by the Eagles in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He played in 16 games last season, mainly on special teams.

Johnson played college football at the University of Kansas where he was an All-Big 12 selection as a senior when he recorded 61 tackles, including 8.5 tackles for a loss, 6.5 sacks and forced four fumbles, which was third most in the Big-12. He also recovered two fumbles.

Johnson’s ability to play special teams could be the main reason why he was selected over someone like Jack. Be sure to stay tuned to SCN for the latest news and notes surrounding the Steelers as they prepare for the Cardinals this Sunday at Acrisure Stadium.
