Steelers place Nate Herbig on IR, make other roster moves

The Pittsburgh Steelers wanted a second opinion on Nate Herbig’s shoulder injury, and the opinion they got was the same as the first.

The injury was significant enough for the team to place the center/guard on the Reserve/Injured List (IR).

Tuesday the team announced Herbig’ torn rotator cuff would be a long term recovery. Could he return? It’s possible, but it depends on the severity of the injury. The team is allowed two players to return off IR, and it is unknown if Herbig is one of those players.

With a new roster spot open the team made a couple roster moves ahead of their final preseason game Saturday.

The Steelers released cornerback Anthony Averett, and signed defensive lineman Marcus Haynes and LB Kyahva Tezino to fill out the 90-man roster.

Be sure to stay tuned for the latest news and updates on the Steelers as they prepare for preseason Week 3 vs. the Detroit Lions.
