Steelers place Diontae Johnson, Anthony McFarland on injured reserve

The Pittsburgh Steelers have made some final roster adjustments at the 4 PM deadline ahead of their Monday night matchup with the Cleveland Browns. In order to have Week 2 be one of the four games they will be required to miss, the Steelers have placed wide receiver Diontae Johnson and running back Anthony McFarland Jr. on the Reserve/Injured List (IR). The Steelers did not add any players to their 53-man roster in place of either player. In order to have more players available for Monday night’s game, the Steelers announced they elevated running back Qadree Ollison from the practice squad for the game.

With the Steelers choosing to specifically add Ollison as a practice squad elevation, he will revert back to the Steelers practice squad following the game. This means the Steelers only have 51 players on their active roster plus the one practice squad elevation. For this reason, the Steelers will have four players they need to list as inactive 90 minutes ahead of tonight‘s kickoff.

The biggest issue with both Johnson and McFarland is the fact they now must miss the Steelers next four games before they are eligible to return from IR. With the Steelers playing exactly 4 games before the bye week, both players will be eligible return at that time and will not be forced to linger past the Steelers break.
