Steelers place Breiden Fehoko on Injured Reserve, make other roster moves

The Pittsburgh Steelers have wrapped up their first preseason game, a 20-12 loss to the Houston Texans, and in the wake of the game the team is deciding to make some roster moves on their 90-man offseason roster. Saturday afternoon Nick Farabaugh of PennLive.com reported Breiden Fehoko was placed on Injured Reserve with a shoulder injury, but that roster move wasn’t the only one which was made by the team.

According to Farabugh, the Steelers will be making other moves to help fill gaps in the roster:

“The team waived linebacker Easton Gibbs, who they signed just days before their first preseason game after linebacker Tyler Murray suffered a groin injury. In his few practices, Gibbs struggled, and he similarly had trouble again against the Texans in the limited snaps that he did play.

“The team has signed defensive lineman Marquiss Spencer and linebacker Laquay Washington to fill the roster spots. The Steelers previously hosted Spencer for a workout before training camp. With injuries along the defensive line, including on the interior and at outside linebacker, Spencer will help fill that void.”

The only question at this point is whether Fehoko’s season is over before it ever began, or if the new Injured Reserve rules might give him a shot to return to the team at some point this season. Either way, the Steelers are shaking up their roster as they prepare for the Buffalo Bills in both a joint practice ahead of the Week 2 preseason game at Acrisure Stadium Saturday night.

UPDATE:

On top of those moves, the Steelers officially announced defensive lineman Dean Lowry was activated off the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP List) and is cleared to return to practice starting Sunday.
