Steelers officially send a 6th Round 2025 Draft pick to the Bears for Justin Fields
It was a foregone conclusion, barring injury, when Mike Tomlin chose to turn to Russell Wilson prior to the Sunday Night Football game vs. the New York Jets the draft pick the Pittsburgh Steelers would be sending the Chicago Bears for Justin Fields wouldn’t be the greater of the two conditional picks.
In case you forgot, which is unlikely, the Steelers would be sending a 4th Round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft if Fields played more than 50% of the team’s snaps in 2025. If he didn’t eclipse that 50% plateau, the draft pick would be a 6th Round selection. Fields played sparingly down the stretch, and was injured for 2 out of the last 3 games, to ensure the draft pick sent to the Bears was a 6th Round pick, not a 4th.
If Wilson didn’t injure his calf on the first day of training camp during the conditioning test, there is a good chance Fields doesn’t see the field as much as he did in 2024. Fields help the Steelers to a 4-2 record during his time as the starting quarterback, and here were his statistics for the season.
2024 Passing Statistics
10 Games, 106 completions,161 attempts, 65.8 CMP%, 1,106 yards, 6.9 ave., 5 TD, 1 INT, 55 long, 16 sacks, 93.3 Rating
2024 Rushing Statistics
10 Games, 62 rushes, 289 yards, 4.7 ave., 5 TD, 30 long, 19 first downs, 4 fumbles, 0 lost
Is this how Fields’ story in Pittsburgh ends? Will he be going elsewhere as a free agent this offseason? The Steelers will have a tough decision to make this offseason as it pertains to what they want to do at the quarterback position. At this point, all three quarterbacks, Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, Kyle Allen, are all slated to to be Unrestricted Free Agents this offseason.
Could the Steelers have another overhaul of their quarterback room for the second year in a row?
