Steelers now dealing with several key injuries on a short week

The Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off a horrible 24-10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 13 at Acrisure Stadium, and as the Steelers are forced to prepare for the New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football they might be doing so without many key players due to injury.

Following the loss to Arizona Mike Tomlin met with the media and went over the laundry list of injuries the team is now dealing with heading into Thursday night.

No injury was bigger than the ankle injury to Kenny Pickett. Tomlin didn’t elaborate on the injury, but wouldn’t rule out the chance Pickett plays on Thursday night when asked if he would stick with Mitch Trubisky or Mason Rudolph.

Offensive guard Isaac Seumalo left with a shoulder injury, and was not able to return. Another player who was injured, tried to return, but was unable to continue the game was inside linebacker Elandon Roberts. Roberts suffered a groin injury in the first half of the game which eventually knocked him out of the contest.

T.J. Watt was hampered by an ankle injury, but had it taped and was able to finish the contest. After the game Watt said the injury was nothing, but no a short week the injury report will be something to keep an eye on.

An injury which wasn’t known was a broken hand to safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. Tomlin said Fitzpatrick was able to get his hand casted during the lengthy delay in the second half, and he was able to return to the game. Clearly, a safety with only one hand is going to be limited in what he can, and cannot, do in the deep secondary.

In other words, it isn’t a good situation for the Steelers moving forward. Be sure to stay tuned to SCN for the latest news and notes surrounding the Steelers as they prepare on a short week for the New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football in Week 14.
