Steelers make two practice squad elevations ahead of the game vs. the Colts

The Pittsburgh Steelers have had to promote a good deal of practice squad players prior to their first three games of the regular season, and that trend continued ahead of their latest road game. That game would be none other than a Week 4 trip to Indianapolis to play the Colts.

Saturday the team announce they were promoting running back Aaron Shampklin and cornerback Thomas Graham Jr. to the active roster for Sunday’s game.

For more about these two players, this is from the Steelers official website:

Thomas Graham

Graham was signed to a Reserve/Future contract at the end of the 2023 season and then added to the practice squad at the beginning of the season.

He was originally drafted by the Chicago Bears in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He played in four games for the Bears, recording 13 tackles and four passes defensed. He also spent time on the Bears practice squad.

He was signed by the Cleveland Browns off the Bears practice squad early in the 2022 season.

He played at the University of Oregon where he finished his career with 182 tackles, 10.5 tackles for a loss, eight interceptions, 40 passes defensed, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Aaron Shampklin

Shampklin was with the team throughout the offseason and through the preseason, and was waived on the final roster cut and returned to the practice squad.

Shampklin originally joined the Steelers when he signed a Reserve/Future contract at the end of the 2023 season. Prior to that he spent time with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023, and also spent part of the 2022 season with the Indianapolis Colts and Dallas Cowboys.

He played at Harvard where he was a two-time All-Ivy League selection, leading the league with a 92.8-yard rushing average per game in 2021. He finished his career with 402 carries for 2,251 yards and 23 touchdowns.

Outside of these two moves, the Steelers also downgraded Isaac Seumalo to ‘OUT’. He was listed as ‘DOUBTFUL’ on Friday’s injury report. This means Mason McCormick could be getting his first career start if the team chooses him over Spencer Anderson.
