Steelers make multiple roster moves ahead of Saturday’s Wild Card game
The Pittsburgh Steelers have filled out their 53-man roster and made multiple other roster moves ahead of their Wild Card matchup against the Ravens in Baltimore Saturday night. With one spot open due to the release of Scotty Miller on Thursday, the Steelers have activated offensive lineman Calvin Anderson from the Reserve/Injured List (IR) as he returned to practice after being designated to return earlier this week. Additionally, the Steelers have signed Miller back to the practice squad and elevated both him and Jamal Agnew for tonight’s game.

Calvin Anderson was placed on IR ahead of the Steelers Week 15 game against the Philadelphia Eagles after sustaining a groin injury in the last practice of the week. Anderson joined the Steelers during the 2024 season after first round draft pick Troy Fautanu was placed on IR in September. For the season, Anderson has appeared in four games for the Steelers where he has played 11 offensive snaps and one on special teams.
Anderson went undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Rice by the New England Patriots. After failing to make the Patriots’ 53-man roster, Anderson was signed by the New York Jets for the first four weeks of the season, but was poached off the Jets practice squad by the Denver Broncos.
Anderson called Denver home for the next three seasons before going back to the Patriots in 2023, where he spent much of 2023 training camp on the non-football injury list. In April 2024 Anderson revealed it was because he had contracted malaria while doing philanthropic work in Nigeria. He was placed on injured reserve in early November of 2023 after suffering a heart contusion in practice. At the end of August, Anderson was placed on injured reserve, ending his season, and released a few days later.
The addition of Calvin Anderson comes due to the questionable status of starting right guard Mason McCormick, who suffered a broken hand in Week 18. If McCormick is unable to play, the Steelers need to have an eight offensive lineman active in order to have 48 players active for the game.
After releasing Scottie Miller on Thursday, the Steelers have brought him back to the practice squad and elevated him for the game. This season, Miller has five receptions for 69 yards in 13 games.
The Steelers also elevated wide receiver Jamal Agnew, who has been with the practice squad since November. Agnes was a fifth-round draft pick of the Detroit Lions in 2017 where he spent four seasons before signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars for three additional seasons. In all, Agnew has appeared in 77 games with 77 receptions for 746 yards and 5 touchdowns.
it’s curious as to why the Steelers would elevate two more wide receivers for this game, especially since they have not had Scotty Miller active when all other options are healthy. It’s curious how the inactive list will turn out later today, which is released 90 minutes before kickoff.
Stay tuned to Steel Curtain Network’s continued coverage of the Pittsburgh Steelers as they prepare to face the Baltimore Ravens for a third time during the 2024 NFL season in the first round of the playoffs.
