Steelers make jersey numbers official for free agent additions

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been tying up the loose ends when it comes to completed business of the 2024 offseason. After formally announcing all the reported players who joined the team, the Steelers have officially announced the jersey numbers for their newly acquired players.

For several of the players the Steelers have added this offseason, they were able to keep their same numbers from their previous stops. Russell Wilson (3), Donte Jackson (26), Cordarrelle Patterson (84), and Dean Lowry (94) all were able to retain numbers they have worn for their entire careers. Players such as Patrick Queen (6) and Quez Watkins (16) were able to retain numbers they wore in the previous three seasons after switching to a new number from the rookie year. Watkins began his career with number 80 while Queen‘s first season he wore number 48.

For the other players, they are diving into new numbers. Justin Fields will be wearing number 2 after having number 1 in Chicago for the last three seasons. Kyle Allen (4) will branch out to a new number after previously wearing 3, 7, 8, and 9 throughout his six-year NFL career. Cameron Johnston (5) most recently wore number 11 for three years in Houston after being number 1 for three seasons in Philadelphia. Van Jefferson (11) has also donned a different number each stop in his NFL career after sporting number 12 with the Los Angeles Rams and number 15 with the Atlanta Falcons. Additionally, Deshon Elliott (25) has had a different number with each NFL team after wearing number 32 in Baltimore, 5 in Detroit, and 21 in Miami.

While some Steelers fans put a lot into a player’s number, others simply would like to have the information this fall to be able to identify players on the field. But for those of you who are waiting to purchase a jersey of one of the Steelers new players, it is now safe to do so as the information has now been made official.
