Steelers make 2 roster moves ahead of Sunday’s Week 1 game

The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced their final roster moves ahead of their Week 1 matchup in Atlanta against the Falcons. On Saturday, the Steelers announced they have placed rookie defensive lineman Logan Lee on the Reserve/Injured List (IR). Additionally, the Steelers have elevated wide receiver Ben Skowronek from the practice squad.

The Steelers kept the direst of their sixth-round draft picks on the 53-man roster to start the 2024 NFL season despite Lee missing the final preseason game with a calf injury. After not practicing all week, Logan Lee was ruled out of the Steelers Week 1 game in their final injury report on Friday. With the Steelers placing Lee on IR, keeping him out of the lineup for at least the first four games of the season.

It is interesting how the Steelers announced the roster moves as wide receiver Ben Skowronek is listed as a practice squad elevation and not being signed to the 53-man roster. This means Skowronek will revert back to the practice squad on Monday and the Steelers will have an opening on their active roster. As for Skowronek, he joined the Steelers after being released by the Houston Texans. Skowronek was traded to Houston from the Los Angeles Rams where he was drafted in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL draft. In three seasons in Los Angeles, Skowronek appeared in 45 games with 12 starts where he had 58 receptions on 93 targets for 575 yards and a touchdown. Additionally, Skowronek had over 500 snaps on special teams with the Rams.

The elevation of Skowronek gives the Steelers five wide receivers for Sunday’s game after rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson was ruled out on Friday. Practicing all week, Wilson was limited each day with his ankle injury.

Another item of note is a roster move that was not announced by the Steelers. The Steelers did not place guard Isaac Seumalo on IR, indicating he may be able to return to the lineup sooner than the four-game requirement had he been placed on injured reserve and then designated to return.
