Steelers lose first member of their coaching staff the day after playoff loss

The Pittsburgh Steelers lose in the Wild Card Round of the AFC Playoffs to the Buffalo Bills, but that isn’t all they lost in the wake of their latest postseason failure.

According to Mitch Sherman, the Cornhuskers are hiring Glenn Thomas as their quarterbacks coach. You might recognize Glenn Thomas’ name, and that’s because he was an offensive assistant for the Steelers this past season. Not even 24 hours after the season end, Thomas is leaving for a new job.

There are many of you reading this who probably are wondering what Thomas even did for the Steelers. Well, this is what was said about him on the team’s official website:

Offensive Assistant Coach

Glenn Thomas is in his first season as the Steelers’ offensive assistant coach in 2023. Thomas brings 20-plus years of college and pro coaching experience to Pittsburgh. Over that time, he has coached some of the game’s top players at several different levels, recognizing what it takes to build a productive unit.

There is a good chance Thomas saw the writing on the wall with the Steelers likely to bring in a new offensive coordinator, who would want to fill out his own offensive staff. If he wasn’t a candidate for the job, and why would he be, he took a job while the offer stood. In this regard, I don’t blame Thomas for acting when he had the opportunity.

This is likely the first of many coaching changes the Steelers will face this offseason, and it will be vital to stay up-to-speed on all of the latest news and notes surrounding the team. To do so, stay tuned to SCN as we’ll have you covered in every possible way.
