Steelers hosting recently released center Mitch Morse on visit
The Pittsburgh Steelers have had their share of players getting released from the team prior to the start of the new league year next week, and they aren’t alone. While the Steelers are trying to maximize their salary cap space prior to the start of the tampering period on Monday, other teams are making drastic cuts just to get salary cap compliant.
One of those teams would be the Buffalo Bills, and they have released several players who are quality players, but carried a high cap hit. A player who fit that description would be center Mitch Morse. After his release from Buffalo, Morse became a street free agent and is able to sign with a team, even before the new league year begins next week.
Since the Steelers need help at center after releasing Mason Cole, they are looking at all available options to help fill that void. One of those options would be Morse, who is reportedly coming to Pittsburgh for a visit prior to free agency beginning next week.
This per Joe Rutter of TribLive:
Center Mitch Morse, who was released by the Bills on Wednesday, is scheduled to visit with the Steelers ahead of free agency, per league source. If signed, he would fill the void created by Mason Cole's release.

Morse is a quality player, and would help be a stop-gap if the Steelers draft a center in the 2024 NFL Draft. The team absolutely could, and likely should, double-dip at the center/interior offensive line position in both free agency and the draft. Morse would be a good, and more proven commodity compared to Mason Cole, start for the Steelers to maximize their offensive line heading into 2024.
