Steelers Free Agent Targets: Wide Receiver
With new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith running the offense, what type of wide receiver can the Steelers bring in to help their room. The Pittsburgh Steelers currently have a variety of skill sets in the WR room but is there a “type” Smith is looking for? Smith’s offense relies on the receivers being able to make splash plays, which our receivers have shown the ability to do, but they are also asked to be effective blockers. With the Steelers releasing Allen Robinson Friday, it means this position gets even more attention in the coming days.
What receivers are available in free agency that can compliment what we have in the building already?
Noah Brown
- Noah Brown is big body receiver at 6’ 2, 215 lbs. In 2023, Brown had 33 Receptions, 567 Yards and 2 TDs. A quality that will most likely attract the Pittsburgh Steelers that Noah is notably one of the best run blocking receivers in the NFL, which will fit perfectly in Arthur Smith’s offense. He is capable of playing in the slot where he can control the middle of the field and also has the ability to play outside where he is able to be more physical than most cornerbacks. Brown is a great compliment to the Steelers wide receiver room as he will not be asked to be a huge part of the offense but can pay off in a huge in his skill set.
Josh Reynolds
- Josh Reynolds is another big body receiver that is 6’ 3, 200 lbs can fit nicely in the new Steelers offense, actually in any Steelers offense. Reynolds can step in and immediately be WR3 working the middle of the field as a great possession receiver and can also be a threat in the red zone. In 2023, Reynolds had one of his best seasons with 40 Receptions, 608 Yards and 5 TDs. Reynolds will not be a main target in the offense but is able to be as a WR3 he can be a match up problem for defenses.
Both of these wide receivers will not come with a high price tag but have the potential to have high production. They are also coming from teams with playoff experience, I will always prefer to bring in players with post season experience. There is room to improve the wide receiver room and the Pittsburgh Steelers should explore all options and leave no stone unturned. Making this roster the best roster possible should be Omar Khan’s number one priority, and I believe it is.
