Steelers expected to have several starters back vs. Rams
The Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off their bye week and have started their preparations for the Los Angeles Rams in Week 7. While the Rams provide an increased level of awareness when talking about players like Aaron Donald, Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp, the Steelers were at least able to get healthy during their bye week.
Tuesday Mike Tomlin met with media in preparation for the upcoming game, and there he outlined several injuries and detailed what it could mean for their availability this Sunday in California.
Diontae Johnson and Anthony McFarland Jr. are in the 21-day window to return, and Tomlin said they’ll be working in a variety of capacities at different levels. He also mentioned their conditioning will be a key factor to them potentially returning. They have time before having to make their final decision as to when they return.
Tomlin added how they are excited about the overall health of the team coming off the bye week, and he mentioned several players who should be working their way back into the lineup this week, barring a setback.
DeMarvin Leal has cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol, and should be able to return to his duties along the defensive front.
Pat Freiermuth, who missed the Week 5 game vs. the Baltimore Ravens with a hamstring injury, stated he will be back in Week 7, and that was echoed by Tomlin during the press conference.
Along the offensive line, Tomlin stated both James Daniels (groin) and Dan Moore Jr. (knee) should be working their way back to regular activity this week.
Lastly, punter Pressley Harvin III, who missed both Weeks 4 and 5 with a hamstring injury, should return to the field on Sunday to resume punting/holding duties vs. the Rams.
Outside of the above injuries, the only other player who still seems to be working his way back would be captain Cameron Heyward. Heyward has started to work his way back to health, but he isn’t ready to have his 21-day window started, like Johnson and McFarland. In other words, Heyward’s return is still weeks away.
Be sure to stay tuned to SCN for the latest news and notes surrounding the Steelers as they prepare for the Rams this Sunday at 4:05pm EST.
