Steelers enter Week 3 with a relatively clean bill of health

The Pittsburgh Steelers are on somewhat of a hot streak with their 2-0 start, but they haven’t just gotten two wins, but have been able to do so without major injury in the process. Players get banged up every game in the NFL, but the severity of injuries which happen in-game can completely alter the trajectory of a team.

Steelers fans know what this is like when just two years ago T.J. Watt suffered a pectoral injury during a Week 1 win over the Cincinnati Bengals and was lost for the majority of the season. Injuries like that are what I’m referring to when I speak of a clean bill of health.

After the 13-6 win over the Denver Broncos in Colorado Sunday the Steelers’ good fortune on the injury front continued. After the game Mike Tomlin spoke to the media and only mentioned two players who suffered injuries in the team’s latest victory.

MyCole Pruitt suffered some sort of knee injury which Tomlin said would need further evaluation. On top of that, Tyler Matakevich suffered a hamstring injury which will be monitored in the coming days.

As always, Tomlin will recap all injuries during his Tuesday press conference and shed more light on players who could be missing time, or returning to action.

When it comes to players who could be returning, there could be good news on the horizon. Isaac Seumalo could be returning to practice this week, and Roman Wilson was a full participant in practice last week. It wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility to see Seumalo return to practice this week and Wilson get his first active participation since being drafted in the 3rd Round of this year’s draft.

Possibly the biggest injury to monitor would be the calf injury of Russell Wilson. Wilson has practiced in a limited role and been the emergency QB3 the past two weeks, but will that change leading into Week 3? Only time will tell if Tomlin wants to give Justin Fields another start, or leave the door open for Wilson to return to the lineup.

Be sure to stay tuned to SCN for the latest news and notes surrounding the Steelers as they prepare for the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 3 at Acrisure Stadium.
