Steelers enter Week 2 preseason game with new injuries

The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing not just for a preseason football game, but also a joint practice, with the Buffalo Bills. As the team gets ready for these new challenges, they are also dealing with a new group of injuries on their roster. On Wednesday, the last official day of the team’s training camp at Saint Vincent College, the team had a trio of new injuries.

The players who left practice and didn’t return were:

Center Nate Herbig (undisclosed)

CB Grayland Arnold (calf)

RB Jonathan Ward (hamstring)

The nature of these injuries are listed above, and it certainly could impact the roster in Week 2 if these injuries are deemed to keep the above players out of the lineup.

No position will be impacted more than center. If Herbig is unable to play this weekend, it would open the door for rookie 2nd Round pick Zach Frazier to get the start. As Mike Tomlin always says, “One man’s misfortune is another man’s opportunity.” and this could be the opportunity Frazier needs to claim the starting role and never relinquish it.

With the injury of Arnold, rookie undrafted rookie Beanie Bishop should also get more repetitions for the slot cornerback role on the team’s defense. Another opportunity for Bishop to prove his worth and ability.

These injuries are added to other injuries which very well could keep other players out of the joint practice and game this weekend. Injuries to players like:

WR Roman Wilson

CB Donte Jackson

Injuries happen, it’s a part of life in the NFL and in training camp; however, the Steelers will get to see a good glimpse of certain players who might be waiting for their opportunity this weekend. Will they seize it? That will be proven soon enough.
