Steelers enter Week 14 about as healthy as any NFL team could ask

The Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off a 44-38 win over AFC North rival Cincinnati Bengals, and there is a facet of this team which might be more astonishing than their 9-3 record. That facet would be the team’s stellar injury status heading into another AFC North contest, this a Week 14 game vs. the Cleveland Browns in Pittsburgh.

After the Week 13 win Sunday in Cincinnati, the Steelers had just one player who left the game with injury. That player was wide receiver Calvin Austin III who left with a head injury, and who Mike Tomlin said after the game was being evaluated. We’ll find out the status of Austin Tuesday when Mike Tomlin meets with the media, but if Austin is in the NFL’s Concussion Protocol is availability will be in the air vs. the Browns.

Outside of in-game injuries, which Tomlin labeled all others as “bumps and bruises associated with football”, the team could also get some help for the stretch run this week.

Alex Highsmith was doubtful heading into the Bengals game, and barring a setback should be able to play vs. the Browns at Acrisure Stadium. His presence could help lift a pass rush which is coming off a 4 sack performance against Joe Burrow and company.

Also possible to return would be Montravius Adams and Cory Trice. Both players are in their 21-day window to return, with Trice and Adams in different points in this three week window. Trice is entering the final week of his window, while Adams didn’t have his window started until last week. If Trice doesn’t return to the 53-man roster this week, he would land on season-ending Injured Reserve (IR).

After serving his 4 games on IR, Steelers rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson is able to have his 21-day window opened as well. The question would be when the Steelers feel it to be necessary for Wilson to return to the lineup. If Wilson isn’t going to be getting a helmet on game days, it doesn’t make much sense to have him take up a spot on the 53-man roster until he is needed at the position.

As stated earlier, we’ll learn more regarding the injury status of many of these players Tuesday during Mike Tomlin’s press conference. Be sure to stay tuned to SCN for the latest news and notes surrounding the Steelers as they prepare for the Browns in Week 14.
