Steelers dealt a big injury in Week 1, losing Cameron Johnston to “serious injury”

The Pittsburgh Steelers entered their Week 1 game vs. the Atlanta Falcons with a relatively clean bill of health, but unfortunately that bill of health didn’t get them through to Week 2.

During the 18-10 win over the Falcons the Steelers lost punter Cameron Johnston to a leg injury when Miles Killebrew blocked a defender into Johnston’s kicking leg as it was landing on the ground. After the game head coach Mike Tomlin called the Johnston injury a “serious injury”.

On top of that, Tomlin added it was, “a shame for him” and continued how Johnston is “An absolute stud, not just his talents, but his approach to business.” Further evaluation is necessary and Tomlin said he’ll update the injury on Tuesday during his weekly press conference, but you will likely see the Steelers bringing in a punter for a workout this week.

Other injuries were to cornerback Darius Rush who is being evaluated for a concussion. The injury happened near the end of the game, so Tomlin wasn’t sure if Rush had a diagnosed concussion, but was merely being evaluated.

All other players who left the game with what Tomlin labels “bumps and bruises” were all able to return to action. Players who missed some snaps but were able to return would be Donte Jackson and Joey Porter Jr.
