Steelers come to terms with free agent punter Cameron Johnston
The Pittsburgh Steelers have been quiet on Monday with the NFL’s legal tampering period officially started. That was until they finally pulled the trigger on a move.
A punter.
That’s right, the Steelers have come to terms with Australian punter Cameron Johnston. This per Brooke Pryor of ESPN:
Steelers have agreed to terms with former Texans and Eagles punter Cameron Johnston, per source. The Aussie averaged 47.7 yards per punt last season.

As for Johnston, he has played for both the Philadelphia Eagles, where he started his NFL career, and most recently played for the Houston Texans. As Pryor points out, he average 47.7 yards per punt last season for the Texans.
Johnston will replace Pressley Harvin III, who the Steelers drafted, and averaged 43.7 yards per punt last season. How far they punt the ball won’t be the primary focus for the Steelers after making the signing. Consistency will be the name of the game for Johnston with his new team. Harvin was unable to translate his tremendous training camp/preseason performances into the regular season. As the weather turned, so did Harvin’s game.
This is what lies ahead for Johnston, and only time will tell if he is capable of getting the job done.
Be sure to stay tuned to SCN for the latest news and notes surrounding the Steelers as they continue to make moves to round out their roster with the new league year officially starting Wednesday.
