Steelers Burning Question: Setting expectations for Preseason Week 1

Last season I did the Friday Night Steelers Six Pack and wondered if it was worth doing further. After all, interaction was not great, and sometimes you just have to adjust. So I decided to call an audible, and not just abandon the Friday night meeting of the black-and-gold minds.

Instead of six questions, I wanted to focus solely on one question.

We’ll still do the preamble of what you’re eating/drinking/listening to, but we’ll focus our attention on the one Steelers question of the week. Don’t worry, most weeks I’ll do a bonus/extra credit question for fun. With all that out of the way, let’s get to the question!

With tonight being the start of the preseason, this is running much earlier than on a typical Friday in a typical game week.

Nonetheless, the question this week is what are your expectations for the Steelers in Preseason Week 1? In terms of specifics, what are you expecting from the team (offense and defense) when they host the Houston Texans tonight at Acrisure Stadium?

As for me, I just want to see a clean brand of football, not turnovers and dumb penalties, with some solid play from top-to-bottom on the depth chart. Of course I want to see some fireworks from those who are deemed starters, but I learned by lesson from 2023 when I drank the Kool-Aid of the “Pristine Preseason”. The outcome of the game doesn’t matter to me, but the execution and consistency is what I’ll be watching this evening.

As for what I’m eating, it’s leftover night as we prepare for a family vacation. As for drink, it’s store bought kombucha, and the tunes will be some Dead & Company live concerts.

Happy Friday everyone!!
