Steelers announce roster moves prior to the Week 7 Jets game
The Pittsburgh Steelers are in the midst of their preparations for the New York Jets in Week 7, and they are putting their final touches on their game day roster by making some roster moves. These moves are the weekly practice squad elevations which have become a regular part of the week, and this week the Steelers have made the following moves.
This per the Steelers official Twitter/X account:
We have promoted LB Ade Ogundeji to the Active Roster off the Practice Squad and elevated WR Brandon Johnson and RB Jonathan Ward to the Active/Inactive Roster off the Practice Squad. @BordasLaw https://t.co/DDe1Z9fXO3

The Steelers made one move when it came to the 53-man roster. Released earlier in the week and signed to the practice squad, the Steelers have added outside linebacker Ade Ogundeji back to the roster ahead of Sunday night’s matchup. Since there were only 52 players on the roster, there was no need for any other roster move. During last week’s game, Ogundeji played 16 snaps on defense and had one pass defensed.
When it came to the Steelers practice squad elevations, it is two players who have already been elevated before this season. Wide receiver Brandon Johnson was elevated by the Steelers in Week 5 against the Dallas Cowboys where he had one reception on one target for 9 yards. The elevation of Johnson likely indicates that rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson will not be active on game day with his hamstring injury which had him listed as questionable.
The other player elevated from the practice squad is running back Jonathan Ward. His third game in a row for the Steelers, this is his final elevation of the year unless he is signed to the active roster. In the two previous games, Ward has five rushes for 22 yards with a 4.4 yard per carry average.
As expected, the Steelers did not activate offensive tackle Dylan Cook from the Reserve/Injured; Designated to Return List. The Steelers opened the 21-day practice window for Cook on Wednesday, but on Friday ruled him out for this week. There was no reason to bring Cook back to the 53-man roster, despite they’re having an open spot, if he was not going to be available on Sunday night.
