Steelers announce roster moves prior to the Week 10 Commanders game

The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for the latest road trip, this a Week 10 matchup vs. the Washington Commanders. As the Steelers are coming off their Week 9 bye, the team is relatively healthy heading into this game. However, there always is a need for the team to make some roster adjustments prior to a contest.

In this regard, we are talking about players who are either promoted to the active roster from the practice squad, or a roster move which sees someone waived as a player moves to the 53-man roster. Ahead of the Commanders game the Steelers have made the following roster moves:

Coming off the Reserve/Injured List (IR), the Steelers added both linebacker Tyler Matakevich and wide receiver Ben Skowronek back to the roster. Tyler Matakevich came back to the Steelers, the team who drafted him in the seventh round of the 2016 NFL draft, after spending four years in Buffalo. Playing in the Steelers first two games of the season, Matakevich had two tackles on 36 special team snaps.

As for Ben Skowronek, he also played the first two games of the season for the Steelers where he was activated from the practice squad mainly for his special teams. Skowronek was standing out in a great way, so much so the Steelers added him to the 53-man roster, but then landed on IR ahead of Week 3. Skowronek has played 23 special team snaps and only six offensive snaps where he is not seen a target but does have one tackle.

To make room on the roster, the Steelers released running back Jonathan Ward and safety Terrell Edmunds. Edmunds had already been ruled out for Week 10 after missing all week due to an illness. Signed off the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad ahead of Week 2, Edmund‘s returned to the Steelers and appeared in five games where he played 82 special team snaps as well as 63 on defense. In all, Edmund has had seven tackles on the season. As for Jonathan Ward, he has appeared in four games with the Steelers this season with five rushes for 22 yards but had not been called on at running back in several weeks. Instead, Ward had 59 special team snaps for the Steelers this season.

For both of these moves, it appears the Steelers are mainly swapping the return of two special teams players for two others.
