Steelers add a defensive back to their practice squad

The Pittsburgh Steelers are gearing up for the Cleveland Browns in Week 2 on Monday Night Football at Acrisure Stadium, but they are having to make several roster moves before the big divisional game. After placing Cam Heyward on Injured Reserve (IR) Thursday, the team also announced several other roster moves at the same time.

Some of those moves were juggling the 16-man practice squad. When Dez Fitzpatrick was promoted to the active roster, it left an opening on the practice squad. That vacancy has now been filled after the Steelers announced the signing of defensive back Kalon Barnes to the practice squad.

This per the Steelers official Twitter/X account:

The Steelers are trying to bolster their lineup before their first AFC North competition this Monday in Week 2, while also getting the nasty taste of Week 1 out of their mouths.

Want to know more about Barnes and what he brings to the organiation? This is from the Steelers official website:

Barnes was originally drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft, but was released on the final roster cutdown. He spent the majority of the 2022 season on the Miami Dolphins practice squad, before he was signed to the Minnesota Vikings 53-man roster in mid-December.

He played college football at Baylor University where he started 10 games his senior season, recording 23 tackles, five pass breakups, an interception, and a fumble recovery on the season. He finished his time at Baylor with three interceptions, 14 passes defensed, two and a half tackles for a loss and a forced fumble.
