Steelers 2025 NFL Draft Picks: Updating Pittsburgh’s draft picks
The Pittsburgh Steelers have made their share of trades this calendar year, and it is appropriate with the NFL Trade Deadline past to talk about what 2025 NFL Draft capital they have after all the moves they’ve made. How many picks do they have in the upcoming draft? They will have a total of 7 picks in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Now, you might see the picks below and think I can’t count properly, but remember either the 4th or 6th Round pick in the list below will be going to the Chicago Bears in the trade for Justin Fields. So, both are listed below, but only because one of them will be moved to Chicago once the season ends and the snap total percentage for Fields in 2024 is made official.
So, let’s talk about the draft picks the Steelers have in the 2025 NFL Draft:
- Round 1
- Round 2
- Round 3
- Round 4 (Conditional to CHI)
- Round 5 (from LAR)*
- Round 6 (from HOU) (Conditional to CHI)
- Round 7 (from ATL, DEN, NO, or PHI)
- Round 7 (from ATL, DEN, NO, or PHI)
*Will be the earlier of the Steelers or Rams pick in Round 5 as the latter pick will go to the Jets
These picks won’t change with the team not able to make any trades for the remainder of the NFL league year. The next time they can start making moves would be when the new league year begins in March of 2025.
Something to keep in mind regarding the Steelers picks in the future is how they can gain more picks. How would that happen? Let’s not forget compensatory draft picks. If the Steelers lose a lot of players via free agency as unrestricted free agents, and don’t acquire many players who were unrestricted free agents, they could be granted compensatory draft picks. Unfortunately, the Steelers aren’t in-line for any compensatory draft picks in 2025 after they brought in players like Patrick Queen and DeShon Elliott this past offseason. This is unlike the Baltimore Ravens, who would be eligible for as many as 7 compensatory draft picks headed their way after losing a lot of players this past offseason, but the maximum allowed per team in a given NFL draft is four.
Could the Steelers see a 2026 compensatory pick head their way? Here are potential unrestricted free agents in 2025:
- Mike Williams
- James Daniels
- Najee Harris
- Donte Jackson
- Nate Herbig
- Russell Wilson
- Justin Fields
- Damontae Kazee
- Kyle Allen
- Van Jefferson
- MyCole Pruitt
- Scotty Miller
- Tyler Matakevich
- Cameron Sutton
- Isaiahh Loudermilk
- Dan Moore Jr.
Of course, the Steelers will re-sign some of these players, so not all of these players will hit the open market, but if they lose more than they gain, and those who leave get big contracts elsewhere, they could be in line for some compensatory picks in 2026 when the NFL Draft heads to Pittsburgh.
