Steelers 2024 Rookie Review: Round 2, C, Zach Frazier

The Pittsburgh Steelers are a team who loves to build their team from the ground up. In other words, they’ve always been a team who loves to build through the draft, instead of finding players on the open market via free agency. With the 2024 season now officially over, it is the perfect time of year to take a look back at the past season’s rookie class.

Who were the impact players, and who were those who left plenty to be desired? Let’s get the recap started…

Player: Zach Frazier

Position: Center

Drafted: Round 2 (51st Pick)

2024 Statistics:

Games Played: 15

Games Started: 15

PFF Grades: 77.9 overall / 80.5 run blocking / 68.6 pass blocking

Recap: When the Steelers selected Frazier in the 2nd Round of the 2024 NFL Draft, fans saw the writing on the wall. Despite the team saying Nate Herbig would be the starter heading into training camp, we knew it was only a matter of time until the team gave the reigns to Frazier. No one knew it would be so early in the process when Herbig was lost for the year with a torn labrum in his shoulder.

Frazier stepped in and stepped up. While it wasn’t perfect, there were signs in his game the team found their next center for the foreseeable future, and that was a huge positive coming out of the 2024 season. Frazier did struggle at times in pass blocking, see his PFF grades as an example, but was certainly “above the line” in every aspect of his game. Throw in the fact he played alongside fellow rookie Mason McCormick and you can see just how difficult it had to be for Frazier to get acclimated to life in the NFL.

The only true setback for Frazier was his ankle injury which sidelined him before the team’s bye week, but it didn’t become a long term injury for the former West Virginia Mountaineer. The Steelers finding their center of the future is a huge boost for an offensive line which heads into the offseason with some glaring questions surrounding it. Thankfully, center isn’t one of those question marks heading into the offseason.
