Steelers 2024 Mock Schedule: Predicting every game as rumors swirl

The NFL Draft is definitely the Christmas of the offseason, but the NFL schedule release, as mentioned by our own Corey Eckenroth, has a vibe of its own that could compare itself to that of New Year’s. Everyone waits with anticipation all day, and then all at once, the full schedule is available to the public eye.

Leaks leading up to the release have become a common part of the process, and, while not all these rumors are certain to be true, they give us a clearer landscape of what the schedule may look like. With this in mind, let’s make one final prediction of the Steelers schedule and see how accurate we can get!

Week 1- Steelers at Falcons (1:00 on CBS)

Arthur Smith will get a crack at his old team, but Kirk Cousins will be on a mission to prove doubters wrong after the team selected Michael Penix, Jr. in the NFL Draft. There are many storylines to follow here and an ideal game for FOX to purchase as the first part of their doublheader (Game 2 is Dallas at Cleveland).

Week 2- Steelers at Broncos (4:05 on FOX)

Regardless of what your opinions may be on all these sources in this article, it is what we have to go by at this time, and there is no reason to predict anything other than that. CBS already has the Bengals vs. Chiefs matchup at 4:25 ET, which makes me think this could be a rare AFC matchup on FOX. Purchasing a game with such storylines seems counterintuitive when most of the country will not even get this game, and with it being in Denver, I anticipate it beginning in the 4:00 ET time window.

Week 3- Cowboys at Steelers (8:20 on NBC)

This game has not been confirmed, but there have been rumors swirling about the Steelers opening their home schedule in primetime, and there have also been rumors connecting the Steelers to Dallas in Week 3. TV ratings for this game would be nuts, especially if both teams come out of the gate hot.

Week 4- Steelers at Colts (1:00 on CBS)

After a wild first three weeks with storylines galore, the Steelers could have a trap game in Week 4, as Anthony Richardson looks to take another step forward and lead the Colts to a postseason run.

Week 5- Browns at Steelers (1:00 on CBS)

The chances of starting four of five games on the road seems minimal, and with no divisional opponents faced in Weeks 1-4, the Steelers are due for one. I expect some sort of divisional matchup here.

Week 6- Steelers at Raiders (4:25 on CBS)

Since the game is in Vegas, I assume a 4:00 ET start time. FOX has the doubleheader games in Week 7, which does not mean they will not have it in Week 6, but I would bet on this game playing second fiddle to a better matchup in the 4:25 ET window on CBS.

Week 7- Jets at Steelers (8:20 on NBC)

Aaron Rodgers vs. Russell Wilson in an AFC battle? Who would have expected that 5 years ago? If Justin Fields happens to be the starter, we get a former NFC North quarterback battle renewed. It’s a win-win for NBC.

Week 8- Giants at Steelers — MNF (8:15 on ESPN)

Playing two New York teams back-to-back in primetime could be a make-or-break point of the Steelers season. Do not bet against the Steelers on Monday Night Football!

Week 9- Ravens at Steelers (4:25 on CBS)

The NFL could always pull a fast one on the Steelers and put the bye in Week 9, as it would be an ideal spot to make a change at quarterback to Justin Fields if Russell Wilson struggles (The Bears receive a 4th round pick instead of a 6th round pick if Fields plays over 50% of the snaps). However, I could see the NFL trying to fit one more divisional game before hitting the bye week.

Week 10- Steelers at Commanders (1:00 on FOX)

I do not know which network would get this game, but I anticipate a 1:00 start for a game of this caliber. Jayden Daniels could be an exciting rookie, but there are better games on the slate in Week 10 that would garner greater interest for the later timeslots.

Week 11- Bye Week

This would be a solid time for a bye, as it will give the Steelers some rest before a brutal stretch to finish the season.

Week 12- Steelers at Browns — TNF (8:15 on Amazon Prime)

Another benefit of having the bye week in Week 11 is that the Steelers will likely get two extended weeks of rest out of it. The best time to play a Thursday night game.

Week 13- Steelers at Bengals (1:00 on CBS)

As we have seen in recent years, the NFL is not afraid to put the same divisional matchup just two weeks apart, but time is running out to fit two games in with the Bengals. This seems like an ideal time for the NFL to get the first of two Bengals/Steelers matchups in.

Week 14- Chargers at Steelers (1:00 on CBS)

Jim Harbaugh will get this team to a point of relevancy, but at some point during the season, they will have to play in the early window as a road team, despite being on the West Coast. Playing this game at 1:00 ET gives the Steelers the upper hand and makes life difficult on the few, the proud, the Chargers fans.

Week 15- Steelers at Eagles (4:25 on CBS)

Whether CBS or FOX gets this game is unknown, but I would be shocked if this happens to be a 1:00 game. The Steagles rivalry renewed, Kenny Pickett’s return to Pittsburgh (as a backup), and two playoff contenders with playoff implications on the line are all storylines to follow. I expect a network to pay good money for this game.

Week 16- Steelers at Ravens — SAT (8:00 on NFL Network)

This makes sense, considering both teams are reportedly playing on Christmas. They will need the extra day to prepare on an extremely short week. The time has not yet been announced, but with three of the four primetime games having been home already, I will guess the Ravens game is more likely to be primetime than the Chiefs game on Christmas Day. This scenario would give Baltimore two primetime games back-to-back.

Week 17- Chiefs at Steelers — CHRISTMAS DAY (4:30 on Netflix)

What a misfortune for both the Steelers and their fans. Not only is it a short week, but it is not nationally televised. The Ravens face the Texans in the other matchup on Christmas, and only one game be in the primetime slot.

Week 18- Browns at Steelers (TBA)

Remember, the NFL does not announce the times and dates for Week 18, as they will flex two games to Saturday and put the best games in the best timeslots. It is practically a guarantee the Steelers play a divisional opponent, and considering the Steelers played the Ravens in Week 16, it seems more likely, but not definite, the league would put the Browns or Bengals as the Week 18 foe for the Steelers.
