Scotty Miller inactive for the Steelers in Week 10 vs. the Commanders

The Pittsburgh Steelers are now less than 90 minutes away from their kickoff for Week 10 of the 2024 NFL season. Coming out of their bye, the Steelers are underdogs as they head to the nation’s capital to face the 7-2 Washington Commanders.

As is always the case, 90 minutes before kickoff is when teams must announce their inactive list for the upcoming game. With 48 players active for each team, the number of players on the inactive list depends on if a team makes any practice squad elevations. With the Steelers not elevating any players from the practice squad, their inactive list is five players. As for the Commanders, they have seven players due to their practice squad elevations.

Keep in mind that last season implemented a modified return of the “third quarterback rule.” Every NFL team who has a third quarterback on their 53-man roster may include him on their inactive list, but he can be designated as a third quarterback and is therefore in uniform in case of injury to the two players ahead of him on the depth chart. But if one of the players is deemed healthy enough to return, the third quarterback goes back to their role on the sideline.

Here are the five players inactive for the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 10 against the Commanders according to Steelers.com.

Steelers Inactives

No. 4 QB Kyle Allen (3rd QB)
No. 13 WR Scotty Miller
No. 21 CB C.J. Henderson
No. 51 LB Nick Herbig
No. 64 G Max Scharpling

This week, two players had already been ruled out for the Steelers coming into the game. Those players were linebacker Nick Herbig and safety Terrell Edmunds. This Edmunds being one of two players released on Saturday to make room for Tyler Matakevich and Ben Skowronek, Herbig is now the only player who will miss the game due to injury.  Herbig is missing his fourth game after leaving the Week 6 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.

A late story before the Steelers last game was the status of the Steelers quarterback position and who would be the backup. Justin Fields ended up being the third quarterback and was on the inactive list for the first time this season. This week, Fields is back so Kyle Allen goes back to the third quarterback position and can only enter the game if both other quarterbacks are out due to injury.

As for the three players who are healthy scratches for the Steelers this week, cornerback C.J. Henderson will once again not get a helmet in Week 10. After being signed from the Steelers practice squad to the active roster ahead of Week 8, Henderson has not appeared for the Steelers in a game yet this season.

With the offensive line fully healthy as Zach Frazier returns to the starting lineup, Max Sharpling will return to his spot on the inactive list for the Steelers after being active the last two games. Signing with the Steelers off the Washington Commanders practice squad, Scharping has 33 starts in 79 games over the last five seasons with both the Houston Texans and Cincinnati Bengals.

The final player inactive for the Steelers this week is wide receiver Scotty Miller. With the Steelers now having six wide receivers with the return of Ben Skowronek and the trade for Mike Williams, Miller is the odd man out on the depth chart since Skowronek brings excellent value on special teams. Miller has two catches for 31 yards on four targets his season with both catches coming in Week 3.

As for the Commanders inactive list, they can be seen below.
