Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season is in the books. With all games complete, Steel Curtain Network’s survivor league has now claimed its first victims.

One big question as things got going was how many contestants were entered. With all of league one being filled with 100 contestants, league two capped out at 51 entries. Since I am entered in both leagues in order to have access, this means 150 contestants are vying for the signed Mel Blount Steelers mini helmet.

The most common choice in the contest was for the Cincinnati Bengals to defeat the New England Patriots. There were 40 contestants in the first league choosing Cincy and 20 in the second. Two of those selections were mine as I picked the Bengals with the thought that if they lost and I was out, at least I would be happy with the result. At least I wasn’t alone as almost 40% of the contestants were eliminated by the Patriots upset.

The second most popular pick was the Buffalo Bills over the Arizona Cardinals. With 17 entries in league one choosing Buffalo and another 13 in league two, there were a lot of people given a scare as the Cardinals went up two touchdowns with less than three minutes to go in the first half. But Buffalo put up 21 straight points from the final minute of the half through the third quarter to secure the victory and send 30 people on to Week 2.

When it came to the next most common correct choice, there were 20 contestants who chose the New Orleans Saints to defeat the Carolina Panthers. That game was put away early as the Saints went on to win by 37 points.

As for the other incorrect choices they included the New York Giants over the Minnesota Vikings (2), and the Atlanta Falcons over the Pittsburgh Steelers (1). Additionally, two contestants failed to make their picks in time.

In league one, there were 43 contestants eliminated with 57 going on in the contest. As for league two, 22 contestants were eliminated with 29 moving through.
