Week 1 of the 2023 NFL season is in the books. With all games complete, Steel Curtain Network’s survivor league has now claimed its first victims.

With starting a new venture, there are not as many contestants this season as in year’s past who are in the running for the Donnie Shell football. With all of league one being filled with 100 contestants, league two capped out at 64 entries. Since I am entered in both leagues in order to have access, this means 163 contestants are vying for the signed Donnie Shell Hall of Fame football.

The most common choice in the contest was for the Baltimore Ravens to defeat the Houston Texans. There were 28 contestants in the first league choosing Baltimore and 24 in the second. Even though the Raven’s offense didn’t look overly impressive, it was still enough to get the victory against a struggling Texans team who are still in the process of attempting to turn things around.

The second most popular pick was the Washington Commanders over the Arizona Cardinals. With 30 entries in league one choosing Washington and another 18 in league two, there were a lot of people given a scare as the Cardinals were able to hold the lead heading into the fourth quarter. But Washington put up 10 points in the 4th to secure the victory and send 48 people on to Week 2.

When it came to the most common incorrect choice, there were 15 contestants who chose the Minnesota Vikings to defeat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Other popular incorrect choices included the Seattle Seahawks over the Los Angeles Rams (7), the Kansas City Chiefs over the Detroit Lions (5), and the Pittsburgh Steelers over the San Francisco 49ers (4). Additionally, five contestants failed to make their picks in time.

In league one, there were 26 contestants eliminated with 74 going on in the contest. As for league two, 14 contestants were eliminated with 50 moving through.

For those who are still in the contest, Week 2 is open and ready for you to make your next selection. Make sure you get in there and make your choice early as the selection can be changed up until 1 PM EST on Sunday.
