Roman Wilson inactive again in Week 4 against the Colts

The Pittsburgh Steelers are now less than 90 minutes away from their kickoff for Week 4 of the 2024 NFL season. Traveling to Indianapolis to face the Colts, the Steelers have the opportunity to win their third-straight road contest to start the season. As is typical for the Steelers, especially in games outside of the division, there is likely to be a sizable Black & Gold contingent at Lucas Oil Stadium.

As is always the case, 90 minutes before kickoff is when teams must announce their inactive list for the upcoming game. With 48 players active for each team, the number of players on the inactive list depends on if a team makes any practice squad elevations. With the Steelers elevating two players on Saturday, their inactive list is seven players. As for the Colts, they also have seven players due to their practice squad elevations.

Keep in mind that last season implemented a modified return of the “third quarterback rule.” Every NFL team who has a third quarterback on their 53-man roster may include him on their inactive list, but he can be designated as a third quarterback and is therefore in uniform in case of injury to the two players ahead of him on the depth chart. But if one of the players is deemed healthy enough to return, the third quarterback goes back to their role on the sideline.

Here are the seven players inactive for the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3 against the Chargers according to Steelers.com.

Steelers Inactives

No. 3 QB Russell Wilson (3rd QB)
No. 10 WR Roman Wilson
No. 21 CB Darius Rush
No. 30 RB Jaylen Warren

No. 56 LB Alex Highsmith

No. 73 OG Isaac Seumalo
No. 81 TE MyCole Pruitt

Three players who had already been ruled out for the Steelers coming into the game were linebacker Alex Highsmith, running back Jaylen Warren, and tight end MyCole Pruitt. Additionally, guard Isaac Seumalo was downgraded from doubtful to out on Saturday. Seumalo was able to practice in a limited fashion this week and is getting closer to return each week.. As for MyCole Pruitt, his knee injury had him miss practice all week but at least it was not to the degree where he landed on the Reserve/Injured List (IR). Both Highsmith and Warren were in the same situation this week as well but still remain on the 53-man roster and not IR.

Another player who had missed the previous three games is Roman Wilson with the first two being due to injury followed by a healthy scratch last week. After being limited one day last week, Roman Wilson was a full participant every day this week and had no injury status for Week 4. Despite being cleared to play, Roman Wilson will have to wait at least another week to make his NFL debut as he is a healthy scratch as he attempts to get on the moving train. The Steelers will have only four wide receivers available once again for Week 4.

An ongoing story for the three weeks of the NFL season so far has been the status of quarterback Russell Wilson. Once again limited all week, Wilson is the emergency quarterback on the inactive list for the fourth-straight game and can only enter the game if both other quarterbacks are out due to injury.

Two players inactive for the Steelers the first two weeks this season were defensive tackle Dean Lowry and safety Jalen Elliott. For both players, it had merely been a numbers game with how many players they already have at the position. But for the second-straight week, both players are active.

The other healthy player who is inactive is cornerback Darius Rush for the second-straight week as the Steelers instead have Thomas Graham getting a helmet from the practice squad. This means Terrell Edmunds is active for the first time this season. Edmunds rejoined the Steelers from the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad following Week 1. As for Rush, he was active for the Steelers the first two weeks of the season but played no defensive snaps and a total of 19 special teams snaps.

As for the Colts inactive list, they can be seen below when available.
